The WATTMETER
ANALOG WATTMETER
Analog wattmeters uses a moving coil
mechanism to measure power. The meter
consists of a coil suspended in a magnetic
field that moves in response to the current
passing through it. The deflection of the coil is
proportional to the power being measured,
which is displayed on a scale. Analog
wattmeters are simple and inexpensive, but
they are less accurate than the digital
wattmeters and can be affected by factors
such as temperature and calibration drift.

typically use a microprocessor to sample the
voltage and current signals and calculate the
power directly. Digital wattmeters offer
higher accuracy and greater resolution than
analog wattmeters, and they can also display
additional information such as power factor
and energy consumption. Digital wattmeters
are more expensive than analog wattmeters,
but they are becoming increasingly common
and are often preferred for their accuracy
and versatility.
