Laboratory Apparatus Function(s)

● slotted weights ● In experiments involving force,

acceleration, and mass, a student or
researcher can quickly create any
volume of mass desired using slotted
masses and weight hangers.
● The slotted masses are used to teach
physics and other scientific subjects in
student lab classes. By using the
slots, they can be attached to weight
hangers, which are lightweight
platforms attached to thin rods with
hooks at the top.

● spring balance ● Spring balances work by measuring

weight by opposing gravity with the
force of an extenuating spring. By
recalibrating the scale, it is possible to
determine mass as well as weight.
This mechanism works on Hooke's
Law, which determines that the force
needed to extend a spring is
proportional to how far it is extended.
● The spring balance can be marked in
grams or kilograms and is used to
measure the mass of an object.
● It consists of a cylindrical tube filled
with springs inside. It has an
adjustable end (at the top) that can be
used to calibrate the device. On the
other end, there is a hook that can be
used to hang masses, etc.

● steel ball ● The chrome-plated steel balls are

ideal for Newtonian physics
experiments such as collisions and
mass/volume experiments. For
experiments involving impact or
pendulum bobs, drill balls are helpful.
● These balls are made from steel and
have a chrome finish with a hole
drilled entirely through their axis, for
experiments regarding collisions and
density/volume.
