The City of Beautiful Places

The City of Ormoc was once called “Ogmok,” a term that means lowland. It is
believed by some of the constituents, most especially the elder ones, that the city would
be covered with water in the remote future. Whether this speculation happens or not, I
suppose that people shouldn’t be too worried in visiting our place for it offers a lot of fun
and exciting things.

I believe that one of the most beautiful places to visit here is the majestic body of
water, the Lake Danao. I must admit that there are some hearsays about the lake
saying it would cause utter destruction to the city by pouring out heaping amounts of
water. If I am not mistaken, this already happened during the 1991 tragedy caused by
the typhoon Uring. However, from my own point of view, there is only a small possibility
that this might happen again. The government is making an effort in conducting their
own researches. Moreover, the LGU is also eyeing its potential as an alternative water
source. I am greatly convinced that Lake Danao is a must-visit landmark in Ormoc. The
view there is just spectacular!
Other places to visit here in our city is the Mangrove Eco-park. It is located in
Quintolimbo, Ormoc City. From what I know, mangroves protect shorelines from
erosion, from storm surges, waves and floods. I truly love visiting the place because
there are a lot of things to do there such as bird watching, kayaking and many more.
