Reading Summary 7 (Procrastination & Time Mgt)

Procrastination is the action of delaying choices or activities needlessly. For instance, if

you need to write an essay but wind-up squandering time on the internet despite knowing you

should be working, you're procrastinating.

Procrastination is generally damaging to people's capacity to achieve their goals, as evidenced by

the fact that procrastination is related with poorer grades in school and a lower income at work.

Furthermore, procrastination is linked to a variety of other difficulties, including increased stress

and poor physical and mental health. Time management is inextricably tied to Individuals

who possess self-control difficulties, are aware of them, and try to manage them by imposing

tight deadlines on themselves. Such deadlines aid with procrastination regulation; however, they

are not as effective at improving job performance as certain externally enforced deadlines. The

study presented here demonstrates that individuals create deadlines for themselves, even when

failing to achieve these deadlines has repercussions. In a culture devoid of self-control concerns,

this conduct would look nonnormative.

Time management is directly related to the science of self-development, and via this

talent, a person may get better outcomes in terms of productivity, excellence, and schedule

respect, as well as have a properly structured private life away from everyday tensions.

It is important to comprehend the significance of time management and its good influence to be

able to integrate it in both personal and professional context; which is why we should pay

attention to how we can better manage our time, focus on the abilities and skills that will help us

be productive and efficient. University life can be very stressful for students, which is why
college counseling departments frequently advocate time management as a coping method. The

investigation yielded two major findings. The Time Management Behavior Scale comprises four

relatively distinct elements, the control of time has been perceived as the most predictive factor.

Popular time management literature claims that implementing time management

strategies directly leads to greater job performance and satisfaction, along with decreased job

stress. However, there is neither theoretical framework or empirical data to back up this claim.

To address this flaw, the author created and implemented a time management process model.

Workers in a variety of jobs completed a variety of measures, and managers graded their

productivity. Certain time management practices, based on the model's route coefficients, could

have a favorable influence on stress and job satisfaction but not on job performance. Despite the

popular opinion, time management training was ineffective.

 How dangerous can procrastination really be? As college students we only associate

procrastination to delaying homework and assignments, but what if we decide to delay a

certain task at work? The consequences will be greater and it could lead to losing our

job.

 How can we demonstrate the benefits of time management technologies and operations?
