The oasis of Alnif is suffering with a bad drought. The land is dry and some wells are empty.

Due to
climate change in this region there is an emergency for the kingdoms agriculture.

Hammouben Ady, a nomad in the Tinghir region is one of those affected and is forced to rely on
government handouts of fodder.

November is usually a cold, wet month but unfortunately this year the rain failed to come. This
made the king announce the rain prayers across the country. Rain prayers is an old Islamic tradition,
this procession was led by the children holding wooden planks inscribed with quranic verses
followed by local officials and residents. Everyone gathered around a dead oasis, the religious leader
asked people to seek forgiveness for their sins as he declared the drought to be a man-made disaster
Resident Mochi Ahmad alarmed the extinction of oasis and the disappearing of palm trees.

This drought has caused hundreds of people to migrate to other cities. People of the area has
blamed digging of unauthorized wells and rising demand for water for this crisis. But Hassan Bouazza
feels that some of the solution lies in the hands of the people like the installation of solar panel.

Climate change is the major issue the world is facing these days, we are treating our mother earth
harshly, the warnings cannot be ignored, we need to work together to overcome this obstacle.
