LIT 102 ASEAN LITERATURE ASEAN BRUNEI
COUNTRY:

Understanding the Poem:

1. From your readings, does each moniker fit Brunei? Name proofs.
2. What is the intention of this of this piece? Why do you think it is created?
3. Does it serve its purpose?

As the poem describes Brunei as a kingdom of tranquility and an abode of peace, I believe that each nickname the poet gave
the country is accurate. In fact, according to my background research, many tourists attest to the fact that Brunei Darussalam
truly lives up to its nickname as a city or an abode of peace because it is a very secure and crime-free country. The locals are
so hospitable and humble that they frequently invite visitors into their homes and engage in enjoyable conversation with them.
Brunei is considered to be one of the richest and most bio diverse regions in the world, where it has been able to greatly preserve
its forest and natural resources, and as the poem suggests to readers, it is truly a country of treasures and gems. It is a nation
where promoting a green economy is highly valued. With this, we can conclude that Brunei is truly a gem, where treasures of
both people and environment can be found. Brunei is also rich with historic architectures and structures that made the country
more attractive and worthwhile visiting for. This gave the country its name as an ancient kingdom. In addition, the second to
the last line of the poem, which begins, "An ancient sultanate kingdom," depicts a flawless and accurate representation of the
structure of government used by the country when it is led and ruled by a Sultan.
This type of poem is written by the author with the intention of highlighting Brunei's beauty and inspiring readers to protect
their country's cultural heritage. The poem is also intended to convey to the audience the significance of Brunei's designation
as a "City of Peace" and the way in which it has lived up to this moniker. With the help of this poem, readers were able to
understand and appreciate their country's rich culture as well as the alluring beauty of their surroundings, including the forested
hills and historic structures. Because these treasures hold the historical memories and images of our nation, it is important to
cultivate them well in our daily lives as well as to preserve them. This is why reading it indulges and inspires the readers.
Yes, the poem is well written, and each line used here captures the true essence of Brunei, including its rich culture, people,
and environment. In addition, it also inspired the readers to protect their environment and culture and to advance it while
keeping in mind the historical significance and priceless memories it holds.

Valuing:
1. Based on the poem, would you expound whether the people of Brunei are proud of their
country or not?
2. Should it be the case?

In my opinion, the people of Brunei are incredibly proud and contented in their nation. Similar to how the poet outlined all the
wonderful and beautiful things this nation possesses and has to offer the rest of the world. Even just simply saying that Brunei
is a living gem with its people and nature as its treasure gave the readers an idea of how proud they are of what they have. In
addition, the poem conveys how serene and at ease these people's lives are.

No, because it is clear that the the conservation of biodiversity and the protection of natural resources take precedence in this
case. The poem also aims to motivate readers to preserve both our wonderful natural environment and our extensive cultural
heritage.

Elements of Poetry:
1. Is there any element that makes the poem appreciative?
2. What rhythm is used? Is it effective?

Yes, the author used imagery to help the readers visualize the scenes that he wanted to show. The poem was more engaging to
read because it contained words that appeal to our imagination. It acts as a concrete representation of the thoughts and feelings
to make the poem easier to visualize.

The poem is created in a rhythmical pause in the poetic line which created an uneven rhythm or what we call Caesura. In my
opinion, it works effectively since it gave the poem a pleasant sound that made it more interesting to read. Additionally, it
makes it simpler for readers to recognize and understand the mood and impression the poet is trying to make on them.

On A Personal Note
Write a short blog of what you feel for the Philippines compared to how they feel in Brunei.

The poem Borneo's Green Heart gives the impression that Brunei people are extremely proud of their
nation. How they promote and advertise the beauty of their country demonstrates how content and happy
they are with it. Being proud of the Philippines is only natural given the beauty, diversity, and vibrant
culture of this land. The Philippines has something to offer everyone, from its breathtaking beaches and
lush forests to its lively cities and rich history. More than 100 million diverse residents call it home, each
with a special life story. Filipinos are renowned for their friendliness, generosity, and love of food, music,
and festivities. There is much to be proud of in the Philippines, a fascinating country with a rich history.
