The Liturgical Season of Advent

Greetings of peace.

“Christmas symbolizes the God-child within each of us and inspires us to cultivate

human and divine attributes in imitation of Jesus.” Various writers of Christian
spiritually have expressed this view in different ways. Becoming more human and
becoming more divine involve walking the same path, and Jesus shows the way.
This is an optimist view of the human person: that all of us are doing our best, and
that all of us are working our way toward holiness. The liturgical season of
Advent embodies that sense of hopefulness.

We continue to have vacancies for the positions of sacristan, lector, acolyte, and
Eucharistic Minister. These roles are all essential to being able to have Mass.
Please consider doing these roles for us, or suggesting the opportunity to others.
These roles can help you to participate and reflect on church in a different way.
Training will be provided. The Sacristan role can be a paid or volunteer position,
and the other roles are volunteer positions. I would happy to talk to you about any
of these opportunities. Contact me tconway@stanthonyshrine.org or 617-542-
6440, ext. 131. We are most grateful to all of you who continue to serve the
Shrine in this way.

Special schedule for Christmas weekend:

Saturday, December 24, Mass at 4pm, 5:30pm and 7pm.
Confessions from Noon to 4pm.
Sunday, December 25, Mass at 10am and 11:30am No confessions.
On New Year’s Weekend, we will have the normal weekend schedule.

Have a blessed Advent.

Thanksgiving turkeys were also shared with the hardworking BID Ambassadors of
Downtown Crossing.

2022 Franciscan Dinner and Pope Francis Award Recap

On behalf of the Franciscan friars, those who work at St. Anthony Shrine and, most important,
those we serve on a daily basis, please accept our sincere gratitude for making Wednesday night’s
Pope Francis Award Dinner an amazing success. A sellout crowd of 526 joined us as we were
proud to honor Anthony Consigli and recognize the positive impact his family’s business has
made in Boston, while celebrating 75 years for the friars on Arch Street.

I am thrilled to report that as Tuesday, November 22, we have raised $ 1,953,450! If you have not
made your gift, I encourage to contact Maryanne Rooney-Hegan, chief philanthropy officer at
mrooneyhegan@stanthonyshrine.org or call her at (617) 778-1645.

As you know, we depend on the

generosity of our benefactors
throughout the year. The Pope
Francis Award event is our primary
fundraiser and its success is critical in
allowing us to carry out our mission
in downtown Boston. To those who
sponsored, attended, purchased
auction items, donated to the Fund
our Mission, you have our undying
gratitude. Special thanks to our
(L-R) Matthew Consigli, co-chair; Anthony emcee, Nicole Estaphan of WCVB-
Consigli honoree, Fr. Tom Conway, OFM; David TV, for her thoughtful efforts in
Manfredi, co-chair. helping us tell our story.

YEAR END GIVING
We are profoundly grateful to each of you who supported our mission during this calendar year. Your
philanthropic gifts are a beacon of hope to those who thirst for compassion, charity, friendship, or an
overall sense of welcome. Thank you for making a difference.
Have you made your gift yet to support our mission? Many are preparing for year-end giving. Consider a
gift of appreciated stock, or perhaps from your Donor Advised Fund, or if you are 70 ½, you can make a
gift of up to $100,000 via your IRA.
As the end of the year approaches, we invite you to consider making a tax-deductible gift to the Shrine.
There are a number of ways to make this gift.

1. Cash/check - may be given in person or via the U.S mail. Please note that the gift must be
postmarked by December 31 to be counted for a 2022 tax deduction.
Please make checks payable to: St. Anthony Shrine

2. Credit card – Make a gift on line – www.stanthontshrine.org with a credit card.
Once on our website, simply click the GIVE button located at the top right-hand
corner of our home page. Kiosks in the lobby are another option for a credit
card gift. Perhaps the easiest way to make a gift is to use this QR code.
3. Donor Advised Fund
4. Gifts of appreciated stock – contact Maryanne Rooney-Hegan at 617-778-1645.
5. IRA Charitable Rollover – If you or someone you know is 70 ½ or older and has a traditional
Individual Retirement Account (IRA), you can use your required minimum distribution to support
the Shrine through a Charitable Rollover gift. You may transfer up to $100,000 from an IRA
account to one of more charities. Contact the administrator of your plan, direct them to send your
distribution as a charitable roll over, and they will send it directly to the Shrine. Please notify
Maryanne Rooney-Hegan at 617-778-1645 of your intent.
6. Matching Gifts – A corporate matching gift is a tremendous way to increase your personal gift to
the Shrine. We encourage you to take advantage of your employer’s matching gift program.
