Topic: Changing circuits
Worksheet # 30
Class 6

Investigating circuits: How can you use a wire to change

the brightness of bulbs?

By using different wire length, material and

type in the gap, plan an investigation
(choose only one factor)

Planning
1 Write down all the factors that you could change or measure.
Measure: The brightness of the bulb.
Change: Put different types of wires in the gap

2 Decide which factor you are going to investigate and write it down.
The type of wire you put in gap
3 How are you going to change this factor?

By putting different types of wires.

4 How are you going to make sure your test is fair?

By keeping the other components the same.
5 What other apparatus will you need?
A voltameter

6 What are you going to measure or record?

The brightness of the bulb.

Prediction

7 What effect will there be when you change your factor?

The bulb will become dimmer or brighter.
8 Explain why you think this will happen.
It is because some wires make it harder for current to go through than
other.
9 Fill up about your prediction: I am going to use a thick
piece of wire and a thin piece of wire in my circuit.
I think the bulb will be brightest when I use the thicker piece of
wire, because electricity can go through it easily.

Precautions:
10 What precautions you should take while carrying out your
investigation?
Keep it away from water, turn of the switch when putting different
types of wires.
Q.2 Sara made a circuit and connected a pencil lead like this:

a) Do you think the bulbs will light up? Give reasons to support your
answer.
Yes because the circuit is closed from all sides
b) As she moved the crocodile clips to the ends of the lead,
the brightness of bulb will change. Tick one.
i. There is no effect of moving crocodile clips on the lead.
ii. Bulb will glow more if crocodile clips are at the tip of the lead.

iii. Bulb will glow more if crocodile clips are away from the tip of
the lead.
c) Give reason for your choice.
It is because the led is a conductor and the wood is an insulator.a
