PROCEDURES FOR THE REMEDIAL PROGRAM ON THE SBT ASSESSMENT OF CADET


(DCSP-ACA-STO-PR-15)

1. If the result on the assessment indicates that the cadet cannot demonstrates the competencies
required under the 1978 STCW Convention and Code, the College shall institutes appropriate
remedial measures or activities in order for the cadets to rectify any deficiencies.

2. In any case, the cadet after three (3) re-takes cannot demonstrate the required competencies
the cadet shall take remedial course or activities before he can undergo re-assessment.

3. The methods of assessing the cadet shall be done through:

a. Written/Computerized Examination
b. Interview/Oral Assessment

4. For written/computerized examination:


a. If the cadet failed the written/oral assessment after three (3) re-takes, the cadet shall
take refresher course depending on the tasks which he failed.
b. A maritime instructor will conduct a refresher course base on the instructions of the
assessor concerned.

5. For the interview/oral assessment:


a. If the cadet failed the interview/oral assessment after three (3) re-takes, the cadet
shall take refresher course or activities depending on the tasks which he failed.

b. A maritime instructor in-charged in laboratories and simulator for deck and engine
shall conduct the remedial course or activities with the instructions from the assessor
concerned.

6. After the remedial course, the cadet can undergo re-assessment procedures to determine if he
has fully acquired the necessary competencies.

7. If the cadet still cannot passed the assessment process after his remedial course, he is advice to
go back to ship for another contract before he is allowed to undergo another assessment process.

PROCEDURES IN MONITORING OF CADETS DUE FOR ONBOARD TRAINING OR APPRENTICESHIP
(DCSP-ACA-STO-PR-10)

A. FILLING UP OF INFORMATION SHEET

1. The OBT Supervisor will distribute and information sheet indicating the student’s name, course,
mobile number, mailing address, facebook and email account.

2. Each student will fill up the information sheet accordingly. The given information will be used for
connecting and monitoring the students once they finished the three (3) year academic requirement and are
undergoing shipboard training or apprenticeship.

B. MONITORING OF FACEBOOK (FB)

1. The OBT Supervisor will create an FB Page for all graduating Maritime students starting with batch
2013-2014 and onwards. This page will be employed as a tool in monitoring their status after the
completion of their three-year academic requirements.
2. The FB page contains Graduate Tracer Form (GTR), a form which is to be filled up by the students for
easy access in tracing and monitoring them by means of the indicated student’s email address, FB
account, and mobile numbers.
3. The OBT Supervisor will also create and FB group or account on the page created inviting all DMMA
maritime graduates to join the group which encourages the cadets to link, bond and chat with them.
This is to update the cadet;s personal and social status and to monitor the cadet’s performance and
evaluation on board.
4. The information below is the primary concern of the OBT Supervisor upon tracing and monitoring the
cadets undergoing apprenticeship.

iv. Type of Vessel
v. Position OnBoard
vi. Date of Embarkation
vii. Contract Duration
viii. Destination Route
ix. Vessel GRT/KW

5. For those cadets who graduated without company, the On-Board Training Office will review the
Graduate Tracer Form (GTR) to trace and update the status of their application to the different
shipping companies.
6. The monitoring of cadets will be done every three months, or quarterly after their recognition date via
tracer address and accounts indicated in the GTR.
7. Through the created FB group account, the OBT Supervisor can easily:

i. Establish good social relationship and continuous connection
ii. Connect the graduated students and update them about the status of their application in different
shipping companies, their position onboard, and routes (if already employed) and their performance
onboard and even the status of their personal lives.
iii. Give notification to the cadets to enroll the first and second semester of their onboard training or
apprenticeship once they are already onboard of FB group account.
iv. Inform the cadets about the conduct of qualifying examination of the different shipping partners
when in need of graduates cadets.
8. All reported details will be recorded to the pre-enrollment data form of the cadets for their enrollment
and shipboard training placement report for documentation. In this, the accurate and updated records
about the cadets onboard training will be stipulated accordingly.
