Amplitude Modulation and Demodulation

Name: Avinash V
Reg. No. 21BEC1676

AIM: To design an amplitude modulator and demodulator

Software required: MULTISIM live

Procedure:

1) Open Multisim online

2) Draw the circuit diagram of a modulator and demodulator

3) Specify the values of all the components.

4) Attach the voltage probe where the voltage has to be measured

5) Then simulate the schematic to see the modulated waveform along with demodulated waveform

6) Finally, calculate the required parameters like bandwidth, modulation index

Diagram and equations:

Amplitude modulation is defined as a system of modulation in which the amplitude of the carrier is varied
in accordance with amplitude of the message signal.

Let the carrier signal be: Vc(t) = Vc sin(2πfct)

Let the message signal be : Vm(t) = Vm sin(2πfmt)

The amplitude modulated signal is given by

VAM = (Vc +Vm sin2πfmt) sin 2πfct

The amplitude modulation can be practically designed using a two different voltage sources which will be
acting as message signal amplitude and carrier signal amplitude once the modulated signal is obtained it can
be passed to a low pass filter to extract the message signal the schematic representation of AM modulation
and demodulation is given in the form block diagram

From the above mentioned table we can observe the modulation index changing for various
conditions and also the calculated modulation index value slightly differs from theoretically
calculated modulation index.

Bandwidth calculation:

Bandwidth=2fm

Modulation Index:

Mi=38% (Ideal Modulation from graph)

Mi=100%(Ideal modulation by calculation)

Inference:

From this experiment we can understand the characteristics of Amplitude modulated signal
changes with respect to modulation index which basically depends on peak voltage of
message and carrier signal

Result:

The circuit for AM modulation and demodulation is done and output is verified
