word in that activity. After reading the
objectives that have been already
displayed to them, they were tasked to
arrange the jumbled letters that they
may eventually answer to which is
related to the prior lesson to be
discussed.
B. Development WHAT IS IT

Alright so let us now talk about “The

Legend of Maria Makiling”

When we say Legend what do you

think of it?

Anyone? Yes, Marjorie.

As what’s on the meaning on
the activity ma’am, it means
it is a story that is passed
down orally and it is not
Very good, Marjorie! verified.

Yes, people at the back do you have

anything to add? If none let’s proceed.

THE LEGEND OF MARIA MAKILING

Maria Makiling is said to be the

mysterious fairy guarding Mount
Makiling. No one knows how old she is.
It is believed she is as old as the
mountain itself. The very few people
who have seen her wandering around
the thick forest of Makiling say she is tall
and graceful, with brown skin, deep
black eyes, and hair almost touching the
ground.

What do you notice on this part? Is there

any imagery or figure of speech found? Yes ma’am.

Alright, jot it down it may help you on

your quiz later.

So, Maria Makiling is like the very typical

fairy that we know, she is beautiful,
stunning, kind hearted and believed to
guard the forest.

Kindly read the slide, Jhona. *Jhona reads the slide*

Deer hunters have seen her standing on

the edge of a cliff on moonlit nights, with
her long hair floating in the air and her
singing echoing throughout the deep
valleys. Maria Makiling likes to appear
after a storm. She strolls around the
woods to straighten broken trunks,
replace nests on the branches of trees,
mend the wings of butterflies, and clear
the streams of fallen twigs and logs. As
she walks around, all signs of the storm
disappear; roses and orchids bloom,
birds chirp with glee, and deer run
around once again.

So here, Maria Makiling’s primary role is

to heal the place where she lived. To
maintain the life of the forest there she
is to heal what’s broken in it. Just like
every parent, or mother.

Proceeding to next slide. Kindly read it *Gen reads the slide*

Gen.

Maria Makiling is also known to have a

good heart. She would appear as a
young girl to help old women gather
firewood. She would then slip gold
nuggets, coins, and jewels into their
bundles of wood. She would also invite
tired hunters to her home where she will
serve them a warm meal and cold
drinks. She often gives them a small
parting gift of ginger, which hunters
discover to have turned into gold when
they arrive home.

This only shows how kindhearted Maria

was, aside to guard the nature or the
mountain she also helps those who are
in need.

Does the attitude of Maria Makiling still

evident to our surroundings nowadays? Uhm, for me, Yes, it is still
Anyone, may I hear your voice, evident because despite of
Michaela. everything there are still
people who will help those
who are in need.
Alright, moving on to the next slide.

Many of those who were granted Maria

Makiling’s generosity knows well how to
repay her kindness. They thus leave on
the grounds of Mount Makiling a hen
that is less than one year old and with
feathers as white as milk. White hens
are her favourite treats. Maria Makiling
has often appeared as an old woman
begging for food from hunters. She does
this to test their kindness to those in
need. People who refuse to help her are
chased away from the forest with the
sound of howling monsters hiding in the
shadows of the woods.
So, to know if someone is deserving of
her goods, Maria is testing the hunters
or the people who are going to the
mountain. As what we typically do.
There is a powerful quotation that I
know we can relate in here and it is “Do
not do to others, what you don’t want
them to do onto you”

Is that right? Can someone explain the Ma’am, it only means that if
meaning of it? Yes, Renz. you want to receive
something that can benefit
you, you must the same
Alright, very good. Proceeding to the thing to others.
next slide.

As time went by people saw less of

Maria Makiling. She no longer appears
to people to bring them gifts of gold and
jewels. Hunters have no one to turn to
when they are hungry and thirsty. Many
blames Maria Makiling’s disappearance
from the forest on the people who do not
return her generosity. Others say that
the cutting of trees and excessive
hunting of wild animals have greatly
disappointed Maria Makiling that she
refuses to come out anymore. But the
tale of the mysterious fairy of Mount
Makiling lives on.

So that’s what happened if you did not

give the same energy that someone *Students react*
wants. They disappear and never
comes back. People said “Don’t settle
for less” and maybe that’s what Maria
Makiling did.

Class do you agree with that? Yes, Ma’am!

But in another version, it said that Maria

Makiling have fall in love with a humble
hunter named Juan despite she has two
another suitor from Manila. But those
two got jealous to Juan and frame him
that leads to Juan’s death.

But before Juan get killed, he shouted

Maria Makiling’s name on the mountain
but it’s too late for Maria to save him.
On discovering how Juan had been
framed and shot she placed a curse on
Joselito and Captain Lara (suitor from
Manila) and all men who cannot accept
rejection in love. Maria’s curse quickly
took effect that the two immediately
died.

According to the legend from that time

onwards Maria was never again seen by
humans and whenever someone loses
their way on the mountain, they
remember the curse of Maria Makiling
and also of the great love she had for
Juan.

I hope you learned something about the

legend of Maria Makiling. And since I
told you to jot down some noticeable
imagery and figure of speech let us now
proceed on our quiz.
