I am selling treats at the bakesale at school. I have decided to sell m&m cookies and
brownies. I have found out the price/cost of each ingredient and I am trying to figure
out the best way to sell these treats and maximize profit. I am selling the cookies for
$2.08 and the brownies for $2.76 Knowing the price/ and markup we need to find the
best amount of supplies I should buy to maximize profit. We also need to factor in
other things like oven space, bake time and budget.

What is the cost of making m&m cookies and brownies?”

Constraints:

Time: there are 48 hours in total to bake everything.

● 1 Batch of cookies (15 pieces) takes 30 min
● 1 batch of brownies (16) takes 40 min

Materials: I have 3 main limiting materials, flour,eggs, and sugar.

● I can hold 46 cups (24 lbs) of flour at a time.
○ 1 batch of cookies uses 1 cups of flour
○ A batch of Brownie uses 1 cup of flour
● There is a max of 60 eggs
○ I batch of cookies uses 1 egg
○ A batch of brownie uses 2 eggs

The solutions I found was 32,14. 32 cookies 14 brownies, 0 cookies

30 brownies, and last 46 cookies 0 brownies.

● In what ways has the cookies project helped you gain perspective on doing real world
mathematics?

I feel after doing this project and learning about budgets, and profits I feel this is so
helpful to my future. I think learning the understanding of running a business is a very
cool skill to know. I feel I understand how profit works and how to maximize my profit
when selling things. I'm not sure what occupation I would like when I'm older, but I
really have always been drawn to being an entrepreneur, I feel it's enjoyable to be
incharge of your own costs and profit and building a business. I feel because of this
project it really showed me how easy and enjoyable it can be to sell a product.
