Project Description: Conall just started a bakery. He decided to sell two different goods: yeast
rolls and sugar cookies. He wants to know what combination of the two will give him the
greatest profit. Each batch of rolls makes 24 rolls and each batch of cookies makes 12 cookies.
He has some constraints: he only has 48 hours to make everything, rolls take 2 hours and
cookies take 0.7 hours. He also has limited flour 45 cups, butter 160 tablespoons, and shugar
0.25 cups. Rolls take 4 cups of flour, no butter and 0.25 cups of sugar. Cookies take 2 cups of
flour, 16 tablespoons of butter, and 0.66 cups of sugar.
Constraints:
Time: There are 48 hours in total to bake everything.
● 1 batch of rolls (24) takes 2 hours
● 1 batch of cookies (12) 0.7 hours
Materials: Conall has 3 main limiting materials, flour, butter, and sugar
● Then he can have 45 cups of flour at a time.
○ 1 batch of cookies uses 2 cups of flour
○ A batch of Rolls uses 4 cup of flour
● There is a max of 160 tablespoons of butter
○ A batch of cookies uses 16 tablespoons of butter
● And 10 cups of sugar
○ 1 batch of cookies takes 0.66 cups
○ 1 batch of rolls takes 0.25 cups
Solution:
● Step 1: Organize your Information in a table
≥≤
Rolls X Butter 0 Flour 4 Sugar 0.25 Time 2
● In what ways has the cookies project helped you gain perspective on doing real world
mathematics?
The use of math to calculate pricing has helped him gain a new perspective on real
world business and how it runs. This can help me in the future when looking at products to buy
and will also help me if I try to start a business. This will be very useful for avoiding being ripped
off and if I want to start a business I will be able to calculate the sell price for goods and be more
successful.
