NARRATIVE REPORT

PERA SA BASURA PROJECT

This project aims to raise leaners’ environmenatal protection awareness through

proper solid waste management. By incentivizing the process, the learners can also

learn the profit opportunities offered by selling recyclable materials.

The project was carried out every Friday. On the 23rd of August 2019, the

proponent conducted a quick lecture on the legal basis of the project, and thereafter,

presented the different types of profitable recyclable materials to the student body of

Macalong Elementary School.

The participants were encouraged to collect recyclable materials from their

households and communities during the weekends, and at the school on weekdays.

And then pool them at the school’s Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). .
They gathered these recyclables from Monday come Friday when the

accumulated materials were sold to a local scrap buyer.

The profit from the sold recyclables is spent on the school feeding program. The

participants with significant amounts of accumulated recyclables were also

recognized and appropriately rewarded.

Throughout the project, the participants noticeably developed awareness in

proper waste management. They became more conscious in their own waste
generation, not just in school but also in their households. And because of the

incentive approach, the other learners who seemed initially not participative were

encouraged to join the campaign in proper solid waste management.

In conclusion, integrating solid waste management projects in the school setting

effectively promotes environmental awareness and action among the learners. They

also learn to appreciate the value of cooperation in minimizing waste generation while

optimizing the utility of these recyclable wastes as a valuable resource.
