VOLCANIC ERUPTION

PREPAREDNESS PLAN

BEFORE
In any volcanic hazard, always prepare a
survival kit Educate family members and
be knowledgeable of the impending signs
of a volcanic eruption Be familiar with
the evacuation centers Evacuate when
the authorities announced a mandatory
evacuation. Make a hazard map

DURING
If you’re outside, seek
shelter that can
withstand the volcanic
fragments. When in the
evacuation center, listen
to the radio to be updated
of the current situation.

AFTER
Wait for the authorities
announcement before going back
home. Use safety apparels when
cleaning the house to avoid
harmful impacts to your health.

DIFFERENT
KINDS OF
ERUPTION

Ballistic projectile is a
volcanic hazard that ejects
high velocities and
temperature volcanic
fragments from the vent of
the volcano with
trajectory and force.

Taal Volcano is part of a chain

of volcanoes along the island
of Luzon, which were formed by
two tectonic plates colliding
over 500,000 years ago. Since
the formation of this large
caldera (Taal Lake), subsequent
eruptions created another
volcanic island, within Taal
Lake, known as Volcano Island.

PREPAREDNESS PLAN

BEFORE
Before:
• Prepare a survival kit
• Be knowledgeable about the
impending signs and the evacuation
plan for your house and community
when it occurs.

DURING
During:
• Stay indoors and close all the
passageways that ash may enter too
• Be calm and attentive to the surrounding
• Avoid driving during an ashfall as roads
will not be clear due to ashes.
• Wear protective materials such as gloves,
mask, googles etc.

AFTER
After:
• Stay indoors until further notice
• Avoid outside contact as much as
possible until it is safe or
permitted to go out
• Evacuate the area if necessary
In an event of an erupting
volcano ashfall or tephra
fall is usually seen after
the eruption is settled. In
the case of the taal
volcano, according to its
history, ashfall has been a
constant hazard problem
for the community. Let us
discuss what to do before,
during, and after the event
of an ashfall.

One of the places where

phreatic eruption or
hazard occur is in crater
lakes. Phreatic eruption
causes ballistic blocks,
toxic gasses, base surges,
lahars, directional
blasts and debris
avalanches.
