INTRODUCTION

In January 2018, Mt. Mayon began spewing


ashes and lava. PHIVOLCS announced that a
major eruption on the way is possible. Alert
levels were put up and residents were asked to
evacuate. A volcanic eruption can be nerve-
wracking.

BEFORE
1. Be on the lookout for signals such as ground shaking or
steam release.

2. Always keep yourself updated by listening to the news for


the volcano’s activity.

3. Prepare a “Go bag” which includes flashlights, matches,


candles, and a first aid kit. Also, include masks for nose and
mouth which is highly encouraged to be used during an ashfall.

5. Follow evacuation orders. Bring only

1. During a volcanic eruption, it is best to stay
indoors.

2. Wrap your mouth and nose with masks or a


moist towel when dust or ashes start to fall to
prevent yourself from inhaling them.

4. Move to higher grounds because rocks, lava,


and mudflows are also highly possible.

1. Once the eruption stops, wait for the
authorities’ further instructions before going
back to your house
2. Do not cross any bridge or structure where
lahar can flow into or under.
3. Clean ashes from your household.
