BAUER MEDIA RESEARCH

The Bauer media group is a German group which is based in Hamburg, Germany.
The conglomerate owns over 600 magazines worldwide, as well as this they also
own 400 digital products and 50 radio and TV stations. To add on to this they have,
postal distribution and marketing services. The current workforce at Bauer media
group has 11,000 of a work force in 17 different countries.

According to Wikipedia, Bauer ‘Verlagsgruppe’ (media group) it has been managed

by 5 different generations of the Bauer family. Originally the group used to be a
small printing house in Germany, joining the British market with the launch of Bella
Magazine in 1987. The UK actually has two groups of the Bauer Media group. The
original UK based one, H Bauer publishing and its sister branch, Bauer consumer
media Ltd (AKA Bauer media) with the CEO being Paul Keenan. Below, is a small
list of Bauer Media magazines that are in the UK.

In the late 90’s and the early 00’s Bauer consumer media Ltd started to release more
radio stations. The most popular one was Kerrang! A radio station that mostly
focused on rock music which was co release with Kerrang! Magazine. Below are
some examples.
This is a very interesting thing for the company to do as it shows a good knowledge
of convergence which is also a very good example of this. Similar branding and
colour, the same name and themes for both as well. This would be something for me
to keep in mind when making the convergence for both of my magazines and the
final website.

The most important thing for me to look at in this piece of research, is the Bauer
media group subsidiarity, empire. Just like kerrang! they show good knowledge of
convergence with not only a podcast which sprouts to several different streaming
platforms, Spotify, for example. On the website, there are a lot of similarities
between the Empire and Empire website. If we look at the similar branding on both
magazine and website here below:

Here, we have the logo/title with the main features on

the front of the page. We also see on the website a link
to the magazines. As that is the main way for them to
earn money. This is a good show of convergence, and is
something I would need to remember to put into my
own project.
