Explain the rules governing the following drug enforcement operation.

1. Buy-bust operation- A buy-bust operation is a form of entrapment, whereby a


police agent disguised as a buyer of illegal drugs undertakes a sales transaction with a
seller. For example, a poseur-buyer will go to the target area and the rest will positioned
themselves 15 meters from the place of sale of illegal drugs. The poseur-buyer will
enter the seller's house and conducted the transaction, then the accused will be
apprehended and the drugs will be confiscated.
2.Search warrant- a search warrant is issued by the judge to authorize law
enforcement officers to search a particular location and seize specific items. To obtain a
search warrant, police must show probable cause that a crime was committed and that
items connected to the crime are likely to be found in the place specified by the warrant.
3.Marijuana eradication- It involves the location and destruction of Marijuana
plantation, it includes the identification and apprehension of the owner. Marijuana and
plant sources of dangerous drugs shall be destroyed by burning on the site of
eradication activity and in open field.
4.Mobile checkpoint operation- Only mobile checkpoints are authorized and they shall
be established only in conjunction with ongoing operations. Only official and marked
vehicles shall be used in establishing mobile checkpoints. Checkpoints may be
established when there is a need to arrest a criminal or fugitive from justice.
5.Airport interdiction- This involves the conduct of surveillance, interception and
interdiction of persons and evidence during travel by air to control or suppress the entry
and exit of illegal drugs and other illegal transactions.
6.Controlled delivery- It is a technique used when a consignment of illicit drugs is
detected and allowed to go forward under the control and surveillance of law
enforcement officers in order to secure evidence against the organizers of such illicit
drug traffic. Controlled deliveries enable the mapping of complete criminal schemes as
well as structures of organized criminal groups for the purpose of prosecution.
7.Narcotics investigation- This involves the investigation all types of illegal drugs,
from heroin and cocaine to methamphetamine, ecstasy, and illegal prescription drugs.
Explain what are the strategies employed in the different Drug Abuse Prevention
Education.
1. Drug education - This strategy helps the people to educate themselves in order to
have the knowledge and not to engage in illegal drugs. It has a programs that engage
the youth, address the needs of parents, and provide employers, educators, health
professionals, policymakers, and other sectors with information on the prevention and
control of drug use.
2.Drug information- Similar to Drug education, this also a strategy that disseminate
information to the public regarding the illegal drugs to create an awareness. This is
conducted through community activities such as contest and with the help of media
platforms.
3.Alternative - This strategy focuses on the involvement of the youth in productive
activities such as voluntary service work, income producing activities, sports and arts
activities, community activities, and other recreational activities that will help them to
develop and grow.
4.Intervention - This strategy is applied to experimenters and drug abuser that
focuses on peer counselling. It endeavors to help families identify and change behaviors
that may encourage the substance user’s actions. If the perceived benefits of drug use
outweigh the consequences of that use, then change is unlikely to occur.
