Teachers and Students During Summer Heat

The Department of Education recently gave both public and private school administrators
the authority to cancel or postpone face-to-face lessons in favor of modular distance learning as
a result of the catastrophic weather conditions occurring around the nation. The high heat that
the teachers and students endure is acknowledged as having the potential to "considerably affect
the conduct of classroom learning and put the learners' health and well-being at risk."

Concerns about the aforementioned issue and how it impacts the children' learning are
being voiced by both teachers and students. A letter for the temporary suspension of wearing
uniforms has already been issued in several regions by DEPED, and other schools are currently
preparing for the prospect of switching from face-to-face to blended learning.

Students' inability to concentrate on their schoolwork as a result of the intense heat is also
having an impact on their health. The most serious type of heat illness, heat stroke, can occur if
a person's body overheats and cannot cool down, according to the Department of Health.

In order to spare students and teachers from the summer heat, many have also suggested
delaying the start of sessions until June.
