The line graph compares four amounts of products transported that they delivered over a period of 28

years in the United Kingdom.

It is clear that the total quantities of commodities shipped in the UK rise considerablely from 1972 to
2000. The most dramatic increase was seen in road freight.

In 1990, around 70 million tonnes of goods were delivered by the road freight. The amounts of cargoes
transported by water were around 40 billion tonnes, while rail freight delivered more slightly than it,
about 41 billion tonnes. The quantities of goods transported by pipeline were only about 2 billion
tonnes.

The amounts of goods transported by road freight peaked at 100 million tonnes in 2000, a rise of almost
30 million tonnes. While the quantities of goods transported by water and pipeline increase gradually,
the amounts of products shipped by rail have rapid changes, reaching a point of about 41 billion tonnes,
as in 1972
