The graph below shows the quantities of goods transported in the UK between 1974 and 2002 by four

different modes of transport.

The graph depicts the amount of goods transported in UK via different modes of transportation from 1974 to 2002.
Overall, road transportation was mostly utilized among the rest, while pipeline transportation was the least.

Goods transported via road reached almost 70 million tonnes in 1974. This figure fluctuated from 1978 to 1994
then witnessed a continuous increase from 1998 to 2002 where it reached almost 100 million tonnes, being the
highest among the other modes in 2002.

Amount of goods transported using rail and water were almost the same around 40 million tonnes in 1974.
However, starting 1978, there was a rose in water transport that reached almost 60 million tonnes in 1986, while
rail transport started to drop with roughly 30 million tonnes of goods in 1994. In 1998, both water and rail transport
continued to increase amounting to more than 60 million tonnes and 40 million tonnes in 2002 respectively.

Pipeline transportation was the least utilized mode of transportation throughout the 28-year period, with less than
10 million tonnes in 1974. A consistent increase can be seen until 2002 where it reached around 20 million tonnes.
