Assalamu'alaikum Wr. Wb.

With gratitude to Allah SWT. And thanks to His grace and grace I was able to
finish this paper despite facing obstacles, I realize that the help of people around
me in completing this paper is very much needed, so I thank you very much. I also
realize that in the preparation of this paper there are still many shortcomings due
to the limited knowledge possessed.

Therefore, constructive criticism and suggestions are highly expected. Finally, I


hope that this paper is useful and beneficial for those who need it.

CHAPTER 1
PRELIMINARY
A. Background
In learning English, there are many things that must be known in
advance, one of which is the parts of spoken words or in English called
Parts of Speech. In English grammar, Parts of Speech is classified into
eight types of words which are classified according to what they show,
namely noun (noun), pronoun (pronoun), adjective (adjective), verb
(noun), adverb (adverbs), prepositions (prepositions), conjunctions
(connections) and interjections (exclamations). However, in this paper, we
will discuss about "nouns, adjectives, adverbs, questions and numbers"
according to a predetermined scope.
B. Purpose
The aims and objectives of this paper are not only to fulfill the
assignments of the English course given by the lecturer, this paper is also
made in order to increase knowledge and be useful for the readers.

CHAPTER II
DISCUSSION
A. Nouns
a. Definition of Nouns
Nouns are anything that we see or can talk about and that denote
people, things, places, plants, animals, ideas and so on.

Example :

Budi, Ani, Zevana, etc. (Name of Person)


Dog, Cat, Horse, etc. (Animal Name)
Garden, School, Yard, etc. (Place Name)
Book, Pen, Bag, etc. (Object Name)
Oxygen, Water, Ice, etc. (Name for Substance)
Sweet, Beauty, Wealth, etc. (Quality Name)
Dancing, Singing, Swiming, etc.(Action Name)
Year, Pound, Minute (Size Name).
b. Parts of Nouns
Nouns are divided into 2 groups, namely:
1) Concrete Nouns
Namely the names of people, places, or objects and so on
that can be captured with the five senses, namely concrete
objects or can be said to be real objects.
Concrete Nouns are divided into 5 groups, namely:
a) Common Nouns, Namely nouns that indicate the
type, class of objects, places and so on. Example:
Car, Girl,Bridge, Nitrogen, Metal and Tv
b) Proper Nouns, Namely the names of people, places
and so on that are specific to him only. Proper
Nouns always start with a capital letter. Example:
Jakarta, Asia, Medan, Agnes Monica

c) Collective Nouns, In the form of a collection of
humans (people), animals (animals) and an object
(things). Certain words are usually or always used
to make collective nouns. Example: Class, Team,
Jury, Cabinet (of ministers), boy band.
d) Material Nouns, Namely a name that shows the name
of an object that occurs by itself and is not man-
made. Example: gold, Nitrogen, silver, plant.
e) Compound Nouns, Which is a combination of two or
more words. Example: Mother-in-law, Board of
members.
2) Abstract Nouns
Namely nouns that cannot be touched with the five senses
or abstract nouns. Example: Happiness, action, education,
freedom, health.
B. Adverb
a. Definition of Adverb
Adverb or adverb is a word that provides an explanation of the
place, time and way of an activity or event that occurs.
Example: here, now, softly, loudly, tomorrow, again, twice, never,
etc.
Adverbs are also defined as words that describe verbs, adjectives,
prepositions and other words except for nouns and pronouns.
b. Kinds of Adverbs (Types of Adverbs)
1. Adverb of Time.
It is an adverb that states the time of the occurrence of a
job, action or event.
2. Adverb of Place.
An adverb that shows the place where an action, action or
event occurs.

3. Adverb of Manner.
An adverb that expresses how a job is done or an event
occurs.
4. Adverb of Degree.
An adverb that expresses to what extent (level or degree) a
situation or event is. Usually explains/modifies the
adjective/adjective or the adverb itself
5. Adverbs of Frequency.
Is an adverb that states the amount or how much a job,
action or event is done. There are 2 kinds:
1. adverb of quantity.
Usually to determine the adverb of quantity we ask
questions with the word "how often".
2. adverb of number.
Usually to determine the adverb of number we ask
questions with the word "how many times" (how
many times).
6. Adverb of Affirmation.
An adverb that expresses affirmation, emphasis or confirms
an answer.
7. Interrogative Adverb.
It is an adverb that forms a question. Each adverb of this
type is related to other adverbs.
8. Relative Adverbs.
An adverb that functions as a liaison between two clauses
in a sentence. The words are the same as an interrogative
adverb, the difference is only in its position, that is, a
relative adverb is usually placed in the middle of a sentence
(between two clauses), while an interrogative adverb is at
the beginning of a sentence.

C. Number
a. Cardinal Number
A cardinal number is a number that says how much of something
there is, such as one, two, three, four, five.
a) Cardinal Number answers the question “How Many?”
Example:Here are five coins, there are 5 students
It has no fractions or decimals, as it is only used for
counting.
b) Ordinal Numbers.
An Sequence Number is a number that tells the position of
something in the list. 1, 2, 3, 4, etc 5
Example:In “apple, banana, carrot” the word “banana” is 2
Easy to remember: "ordinal" tells you what "order" things
go in nominal Numbers
c) Nominal Numbers
Nominal Number is a number used only as a name, or to
identify something (not as an actual value or position)
example:
• the number behind the football player (“10”)
• A postal code (“91210”)
• Model number (“380”)
D. Question
a. Question Tags
Question tags are short questions that are included at the end of a
sentence to create questions.
b. Function
Question tags have a main purpose, namely to strengthen the
expected information and to ask for information that is not
expected.
These two goals can be distinguished based on the intonation of
pronunciation that we use – if the voice is low it means the

question is asking the expected information – if the voice is raised
it means really asking a question.
c. Question Word

E. Adjective
a. Definition of adjective
Adjective is an adjective or a state word, a word that describes a
noun. For example: the words of a book, can be added to its nature.
For example, new, red, good, and others. In Indonesian, if the word
book is added, it can become a new book, red, good is called an
adjective.
1) Epitnet adjective, In English, adjectives come before nouns.
For example: yellow pen, new pen.
2) Predicative adjective, Adjectives that come after the main
sentence and to be (am, is, are) are called predicative
adjectives. Example : I am ill, she is beautiful, He is clever,
my brother is handsome. n the sentence above ill, beautiful,
clever, handsome, functions as a predicate or sentence
designation. Adjectives that function as predicate adjectives
are located after to be.

A. Conclusion
Studying English, there are many things that must be known in advance,
one of which is the parts of spoken words or in English called Parts of
Speech.
Nouns are anything that we see or can talk about and that denote people,
things, places, plants, animals, ideas and so on.
Adjective is an adjective or a state word, a word that describes a noun.
Adverb is a word that describes verbs, adjectives and other words except
for nouns and pronouns.
By knowing the words in English, both form, meaning and application is
expected to be one of the capital in learning English well.
B. Criticism and suggestions
With the humility of the author, the author realizes that in this paper there
are still many shortcomings, therefore suggestions and constructive
criticism from readers, the author hopes for the perfection of future papers.

Alhamdulillah, thanks to Allah SWT, for His mercy and grace. So that the
author can finish this paper on time. Realizing that the writing of this
paper is still far from perfect, the writer really hopes for constructive
