Navotas Bombastics: Not just the big things

Floods are still the major issue in the locality of Navotas city. As it is situated in a
geographical prone environment and is below sea level, every time there is heavy rain
and typhoons, it is expected that flooding will occur. To combat this situation, the
LGU of Navotas city has created a flood prevention system "Bombastik Pumping
stations". This was built to collect water from roads and low lying areas that are prone
to flooding.

For the past years this program started, it was successful. Floods are lessened, and
comes with it are the health risks imposed by floodings. But times might be changing,
in certain parts of Navotas city, floods are still occurring and how come? It might not
only be due to a lack of flood control Bombastiks, but a lack of discipline of proper
waste disposal and segregation.

It is our very own responsibility to take care of our canals and water resources such
as rivers and dikes, although we might have Bombastiks, on its own it can not do all
the work. Bombastiks can not sufficiently function without the efforts of humans
cleaning canals and waterways.

In an interview from the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Mayor Tianco put heavy
emphasis on the responsibilities of Navoteños in maintaining clean canals and
drainage systems and making proper waste disposal and segregation as a habit.

It is not always the big things that will do all the work, the people have to work along
the Bombastiks flood prevention systems to prevent floods. If we want a flood-free
Navotas City, it should always start with us being responsible to our environment.
