Introduction

COVID-19 Pandemic is facing its demise. And the world, including education setups, is
gradually opening its doors to welcome the post-pandemic.
Now that we can mingle publicly without the fear of contracting the virus, students of the
subject of Community Engagement, Solidarity and Citizenship are ready to showcase their
“ownership” and “participation” so they can perform their duties of being Filipino citizens.
Their subject teaches them how to be part, at least of the solution to a problem that has a
name to the extent of their knowledge and capabilities.
With this, they are ready to do what it takes to be an adult citizen.

Narration

Pursuant to Tibag High School Memorandum No. 040, s, 2023, and in compliance with
DepEd Order No. 023, s, 2020 titled Operational Guidelines on the Implementation of the
School-Based Feeding Program, the Grade 11 Chaucer and Socrates conducted a Feeding
Program to the SBFP recipients on May 3 and 4, 2023 at THS Covered Area.
This endeavor came into being as a school-wide activity as it is one of the most essential
learning competencies (MELCs) of a Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) subject—
Community Engagement, Solidarity and Citizenship.
The given learning competency states:
xxx
Acknowledge the interrelationship of self and community in undertaking a community
action plan (HUMSS_CSC12-11-d-g-8)

The school-based feeding program activity has materialized due to the collaborative
efforts of 11-Chaucer and Socrates to cover the expenses for which they have saved from
January 4, 2023. The grade 11 HUMSS Students got the experience of helping their fellow
students in a small yet significant way.
The same group of HUMSS students have extended their community participation within
the premises of the school and felt they have cemented their legacy of help in simple ways.
The two-day activity was a success.
The two-day feeding program was approved by our esteemed school head,
Dr, Juvelyn L. Esteban and was attended and assisted by Ms. Evangeline Espiritu, Head Teacher
of TLE Department, Mr. Jonathan Paul Briones, Master Teacher 1 of TLE Department and
Ms. Kenzie Ancheta, the school’s Nutrition Leader.
The TLE Department extended their support for the 11 HUMSS students by providing
them with chocolate drinks collected from the school canteen. Such choco drinks were
distributed to the fifty-two (52) beneficiaries.
Interviewed by the Grade 11 HUMSS students, one of the SBFP recipients said,
“maraming salamat po sa pagpapasigla ng dalawang umaga namin”.
Such a statement is very fulfilling.

Reflection

New beginnings. New subjects. New learning experiences. A new attitude towards the
process. Just like the old saying—every new beginning comes from some other beginning end.

The feeding program activity of my students made them completely responsible to

perform the tasks given to them. They participated well as if the beneficiaries were their own
young siblings.

Other members of the class have tried to fight stage fright as they led the entire HUMSS
students in the conduct of the said program.

Leadership among students has also surfaced during the said activity as the class officers
have maximized their authority to give orders to their classmates and the latter have successfully
performed their task or participation.

I can see them making the puzzle of their dream. As teachers, we play an important role
in molding and polishing them to be at their best and pushing them to their limits so as to glow
them in their most beautiful shape and fit.
