How Social Pressure Can Affect a Student’s Performance

Today’s generation is facing greater societal pressure than in the past. It is no exaggeration to
say that as they are exposed to certain information to which previous generations were not
exposed. High school is full of peer and social pressure. Social pressure isn’t something easy to
be avoided, especially if you’re a student of today’s generation.

One adverse effect of social pressure on the student’s mind is a decline in self-confidence and
self-esteem. Social pressure reduces the level of self-esteem and self-confidence among students.
They are thus prevented from believing in their abilities and efficiencies due to their declining
level of self-esteem and self-confidence. This affects a student's ability to use their current skills
and competencies.

Social pressure can result to a poor academic performance of a student. It is necessary or

significant for students to fit in with social groups. It indicates that the group's approval is
prioritized over that of their parents and teachers. Students’ academic performance is directly
impacted by this. The active attempts made by students to fit in with respectable social groups
both inside and outside of school can occasionally have an impact on their academic
performance.

The increasing social pressure on students becomes the reason for tension and anxiety. This
could really affect one’s performance. A student can experience a harder time retaining
information when they’re anxious. With this, they can have a lack of interest in learning which
can result in to poor performance in school.

It is often thought that social pressure is simpler than it seems but it is a lot more than that. It
has a big impact on a student and it’s not easy to deal with. For some, it is the type of discomfort
that’s hard to get rid of. Students today are more exposed to greater social pressures owing to the
fact that they are exposed too early to sensitive content which could affect their worldview.

Student’s academic performance is directly impacted by social pressure. They are under high
social pressure because they are expected to consistently perform well in comparison to other
students. This can result to low self-confidence and anxiety. Therefore, social pressure could
have an effect on a student’s performance.
