PART 2. Read the following text and write your answers in complete sentences to
questions. (20 points)
After surgery patients will be moved to the recovery room where they will be told how
the operation went. They may feel disoriented as they recover from the anaesthetic. A
nurse will give them oxygen through tubes or a mask to help them feel better. It's
common for them to feel sick or vomit after they have been given anaesthesia. The
nurse may offer them medicine to help relieve this discomfort. They may also have a
sore throat and dry mouth. Their blood pressure will be taken via an automatic cuff that
squeezes tightly at regular times. Their temperature will also be taken. The patients
should tell their nurse as soon as they start to feel any pain so they can given painkilling
medication as soon as possible to stop it getting worse (the medication can take 20
minutes to start working). The sooner they start to move around, the better. Lying in bed
for too long can cause some of their blood to pool in their legs. This puts them at risk of
a blood clot. If possible, doing some leg exercises can help them prevent a blood clot.
These may be as simple as flexing their knee or ankle and rotating their foot.

51. How may patients feel when they recover from the anaesthetic?
52. How will oxygen be given to the patients to help them feel better?
