Presented in Table 5 is the distribution of the respondents

according to their BLS practices.

Based on the data, the respondents collectively Very Often

practiced these 8 of 18 (44.44%) steps/procedures: “10. In

treating wounds, I sanitize my wound immediately” (WM = 4.13);

“13. I cover my wound with a gauze pad” (WM = 3.96); “2. I count

during chest compressions” (WM = 3.83); “16. I apply cold

compress for sprains and strains” (WM = 3.83); “7. I maintain my

arms at a 90-degree angle with respect to the patient’s chest

when I give chest compressions” (WM = 3.67); “12. In case of

nosebleed, I lean my head up” (WM = 3.63); “11. I do flush the

burned area with cool running water for several minutes” (WM =

3.50); and “1. When I do chest compression, I make sure it is at

a rate of 100-120 per minute” (WM = 3.42).

In 7 (38.89%) items, the respondents collectively responded

“Sometimes”: “8. I avoid excessive ventilation during CPR” (WM =

3.29); “6. I allow full recoil after each chest compression” (WM

= 3.21); “9. I use my hips as the fulcrum when I do CPR” (WM =

3.04); “15. I use tweezers in cases of splinters” (WM = 3.04);

“5. I push hard (2 to 2.4 inches depth) during chest

compressions” (WM = 2.96); “17. I use alcohol whenever I have a

wound” (WM = 2.96)’ and “4. I complete a cycle of CPR and not
asking to be replaced during CPR if another rescuer is available”

(WM = 2.75).

On the average, the respondents Rarely practiced these 2

(11.11%): “14. In case of choking, I always drink water

immediately” (WM = 2.29) and “3. I instruct a rescuer to push

hard and fast whenever I see them slowing down on chest

compressions” (WM = 2.21).

Lastly, the respondents collectively said they Never

practiced “18. I use toothpaste whenever I burn myself” (WM =

1.77).
