Seatwork 1
Mortel, Renz John ECE- 422
Materials used:
a. 9 DC volts battery
b. 220 ohms resistor
c. LED (red light emitting diode)
d. SPST switch
As shown on the figure above, using a multimeter it is seen that the voltage 7.149
runs through the 220 ohms resistor and cycles through the circuit. This reading was a
result of placing the multimeter between the opposing sides of the resistor in the circuit.
2. Show the ammeter display in measuring the current in the circuit.
As shown on the figure above, using a multimeter it is seen that the current cycling
around the circuit is 32.496mA from the 9V DC power source. This reading was a result
of placing the multimeter between the power source and the resistor from the circuit.
3. Show the ohmmeter reading in measuring the resistance of the resistor.
As shown on the figure above, using a multimeter it is seen that the ohmmeter
reading in the resistance of the resistor from the circuit is 714.893 MOhm. This reading
was a result of placing the multimeter between the opposing sides of the resistor in the
circuit.
4. Remove the LED and connect it in the reverse way, show the ammeter
display measuring the current in the circuit
As shown on the figure above, by flipping the LED the value of the current changed
into 0 A. By flipping the diode around, then no current could flow in the circuit because
the diode’s direction is resisting that flow. So, the job of a diode in an electrical circuit is
to serve as a one-way valve for current.
5. What happens when the circuit to be simulated has no ground?
The ground is a reference point in an electrical circuit, and without it, the circuit
cannot establish a complete path for the flow of electrons. In this scenario, the ohmmeter
and LED light may not work as expected, or they may not work at all. The resistor may
also not perform its intended function, which is to limit the flow of current in the circuit. It's
important to note that in most electrical circuits, a ground connection is necessary for safe
and proper operation. Without a ground, there is a risk of electric shock, electrical fires,
and damage to electrical components.
