In different countries, people are spending less quality time together.

This development
may be the consequence of the generation gap and busy life. The arising problems are the
negative effects on children and the breakdown of family bonds. This essay will go into the
causes as well as the outcomes.
People’s declining time with their family originates from the generation gap along with
being too engaged in their career. First of all, the generation gap has been a bone of contention
( long-standing problem). Owing to a disparity in beliefs between ages, a lack of understanding
is born and this leads to family’s feeling unsympathetic towards each other. Furthermore, cross-
generational communication has become less interesting for everyone. Secondly, a busy life
has prevented them from having more conversations with their family. Therefore, people
nowadays, especially teenagers, have the desire to pursue their dreams as well as many
priorities. As teenagers, they have to struggle with facing constant deadlines at school and
university. When they grow up, their family’s financial burdens forced them to spend quality time
with their family. They are pressed for time and responsibility for their work and their family.
This can lead to the afterwards happening in their family.
The tendency of sparing less time with their family brings both the individual and the
family undesirable impacts. Firstly, individuals who lack closeness to their family are likely to be
more problematic. Children growing up without parental love are more susceptible to emotional
problems such as being emotionally detached or having low self-esteem from feeling undesired
as well as having the tendency to commit crimes, being addicted to alcohol, drugs or being
violent, especially against their own family members. According to recent research and studies,
about 20% of American families are involved in domestic violence due to the neglect of parents
in taking care of their children. Another possible effect is the breakdown of family bonds. Having
not enough quality time with their family results in a lack of conversations and lead to the
erosion of family values such as love, respect, honor, sharing, and forgiveness. And when
parents and children start leading separate lives, lots of secrets are left untold leading to
damaged relationships in the family.
In conclusion, the trend of spending less time with family comes from the generation gap
and the increase of personal entertainment forms. Furthermore, this development has negative
effects on both the individual’s well-being and their families.
