In the contemporary era, there is no point in denying that the choice to either live in one-

person households or in nuclear families has become more common to city dwellers, while
living in extended families is less ubiquitous. This essay is intended to explore the sources of
this trend along with detrimental impacts on individuals and societies.
Chief among the causes of the mentioned tendency is the modern lifestyles nowadays. The
world has been more and more developed which results in high living standards in
metropolises that make citizens spend a lot of time working in order to cover their living
expenses. Therefore, people’s hectic schedule is one of the reasons for the trend of living
independently or in elementary families. Hence, they tend to choose accommodations which
are near their offices and school with the purpose of traveling to more conveniently than their
former homes.
Another cause to confirm the recent increase in either living alone or in conjugal families
instead of extended families is the desire to avoid privacy invasion. When youngsters grow
up and become financially independent, they have a demand to go out of their comfort zone
which is sheltered by their parents and explore their true self. Moreover, leading a life as
they wish can provide them a sense of comfort in their own skin, contributing to productivity
and success in their career as well as their life in the future. Thus, seen in this light, the
development of the trend to live independently is rational in numerous nations.
Consequently, the influences of this have been and will continue to be very serious. The first
effect is the lack of communication with relatives and relationships which have reduced
human interaction. Living apart from family members, urban inhabitants have limited time to
share with their loved one, especially during their ups and downs in daily life that leads to the
lack of shelters and support from their parents. Because of this, people unintentionally create
a distance between family members, even that can create a generation gap which leads to
weak family bonds in a long time. Furthermore, the mentioned trend can take a major toll on
mental and physical health for younger residents. Without parental care, youngsters can
spend more time on smart devices like television, computer, cell phone and not pay attention
to dairy meals which can be poor nutrition and thrown-together. This is responsible for in
unhealthy lifestyles of myriad of city dwellers these day as well as the increase in depressive
symptoms as stress, anxiety, risk of suicide because of the feeling of lonelyness and
insolation.
In conclusion, some reasons are identified for the trend of living a solo life or in nuclear
families instead of taking part in extended families and the impacts are extremely negative.
Therefore, it is hoped that urban citizens should live with their parents and grandparents or
pay them visits at least once a month to improve the quality of life.
