Verbos asociados a la vestimenta

1. ¿Sabes cuál es la diferencia entre ‘match’, ‘suit’ y ‘fit’? Subraya el verbo


correcto en cada frase:

1. This skirt doesn't fit / suit / match me. It's too big.

2. What a lovely blue blouse! It will suit / match / fit wonderfully my velvet jacket.

3. Red doesn't usually match / suit / fit people with ginger hair.

- A continuación, te presentamos las definiciones para cada uno de estos verbos.

1. FIT: Be the right measure, shape and size for.

2. SUIT: Look well, be appropriate for.

3. MATCH: Corresponding to or equal to (in quality, colour, design, etc).

2. Imagina que quieres comprar unos pantalones. ¿Cómo los pedirás? Escoge
la opción que creas correcta:

1. I'd like a trousers. ___

- Observa la diferencia entre ‘a pair’ y ‘a couple’.

1. COUPLE: Two things of the same kind to be used together.

2. COUPLE: Two persons or things seen together or associated.

3. PAIR: Single article with two parts always joined.

2. TEXT

Presente continuo
Este tiempo verbal se forma con el auxiliar to be en presente (am / is / are) más el
verbo principal en forma de gerundio.

SUJETO + TO BE + VERBO PRINCIPAL (-ING) + COMPLEMENTOS

Present Continuous Tense

El gerundio se logra añadiendo la terminación -ing al infinitivo del verbo.

La ortografía de algunos verbos puede verse afectada al añadir esta terminación:

a. Los verbos acabados en -e eliminan dicha vocal.

takeÎtaking hideÎhiding closeÎclosing

b. Los monosílabos con (consonante)+consonante+vocal+consonante doblan


ésta última:

swimÎswimming putÎputting runÎrunning

c. Los verbos die y lie tienen los siguientes gerundios:

Utilizaremos este tiempo verbal para hablar de:

a. Acciones que ocurren en el momento de hablar.

A: Where are you Mike?

B: In the kitchen. I'm preparing some tea.

b. Acciones esporádicas o temporales que rompen con lo que es habitual:

‘I usually travel to work by car but these days I'm travelling to work by bus
because my car is broken down.’

c. Hay algunos verbos que normalmente no se utilizan en present continuous


y, por lo tanto, se conjugan en el present simple. Algunos de estos verbos son: (*
= incorrecto)

- See: *I am seeing my daughter laughing.

- Believe: *She is not believing she is with Pierce Brosnan.

- Like: * I am not liking this movie.

- Hate: *He is hating fried eggs.

- Know: *They are knowing what is happening.

- Want: *I am not wanting all these presents for my birthday.

Acompañando al Present continuous, podemos encontrar las siguientes expresiones:

- Now: ‘I am typing some letters on the computer now.’

- At the moment: ‘She is studying at the moment because she has no work.’

- These days: ‘They are working on the garden these days. The weather is nice.’

- Today: ‘Some people are having a bath on the beach today.’

4. Lee el siguiente diálogo. Sarah está en el hall del hotel y Dímitra se


encuentra con ella.

Dímitra: Hi, Sarah. What are you doing here?

Sarah: Oh, I’m just relaxing a bit before my next class. How’s Ákis?

Dímitra: He’s very busy at the moment. He’s preparing a wedding banquet for this
evening.

Sarah: Really? Aren’t you helping him?

Dímitra: No, I’m not. He prefers to be alone in the kitchen. Tell me... what are you
reading?

Sarah: Oh, it’s only a fashion magazine. Have a look! Are you interested in fashion,
Dímitra?

Dímitra: Well, not much. What beautiful photos! Who are the couple in those pictures?

Everybody is talking about them these days, especially because they got married last
week. Both of them are top models here in Britain.
