To find the median, mean, mode of grouped data, we
need to use some formulas.
First, we need to find the midpoints of each class
interval. We can do this by adding the lower and
upper limits of each class interval and dividing it by 2.

CLASS INTERVAL MIDPOINT

39-43 41
34-38 36
29-33 31
24-28 26
19-23 21
14-18 16
9-13 11
4-8 6

Next, we can calculate the product od the midpoints

and frequency for each class interval.
Class Interval Midpoint Frequency Midpoint x
Frequency
39-43 41 6 246
34-38 36 3 108
29-33 31 4 124
24-28 26 1 26
19-23 21 15 315
14-18 16 10 160
9-13 11 7 77
4-8 6 9 54

Using these values we can now find the mean, median

and mode.
MEAN
Mean is calculated by adding up all the Midpoint x
Frequency values and dividing by the total Frequency.
Mean = (246+108+124+26+315+160+77+54)\
(6+3+4+1+15+10+7+9)
Mean= 18.8
Therefor, the mean score of the students in the social
studies quiz is 18.8.
Median
To find the median, we nedd to find the cumulative
frequency of each class interval and determine the
interval that contains the middle value.
Class Interval Frequency Cumulative
Frequency
39-43 6 6
34-38 3 9
29-33 4 13
24-28 1 14
19-23 15 29
14-18 10 39
9-13 7 46
4-8 9 55
The total Frequency is 55, which is an odd number.
Therefore, the median is the value that is in the middle
of the data set.
The middle value between the 27th and 28th position
(55\2 = 27.5)
Looking at the cumulative frequency column, we can
see that the 27th and 28th position fall within the 19-23
class interval.
To find the median, we need to use the following
formula:
Median = L + (n\2 – CF\ f) x w
Where
L= Lower limit of the interval containing the median
(19 in this case)
N= Total Frequency (55)
CF= Cumulative frequency up to the interval
containing the median (13 in this case)
W= Width of the interval containing the median (5 in
this case)
Median= 19 + (55\2 – 13)\15) x 5
Median= 19+ (21 \ 15) X 5
Median= 19+7
Median= 26
Therefore, the median score of the student in the
Social Studies Quiz is 26.
Mode
The mode is the value that appears most frequently in
the data set. From the tabe, we can see that the
interval with the highest frequency is 19-23, with a
frequency of 15. Therefore, the mode of the data set is
the midpoint of this interval, which is 21.
Therefore, the mode score of the students in the Social
Studies Quiz is 21.
