Verb Forms

GRAMMAR
There are up to five forms for each verb: root, third-person singular, present participle, past, and past participle.

Root form of the verb

The root form of a verb is the base form of the word. Roots have not been conjugated and do not include
prefixes or suffixes.

The root form of the verb is the same as the infinitive form with “to” removed. See the examples below:

to see – see

to be – be

to wear – wear

to go – go

The root form of a verb is used to create other forms of the verb when conjugated. This is always true with
regular verbs, but may not apply with irregular verbs, depending on the tense. The examples below illustrate
this concept.

I am going to school.
(Root: go)

What did you do yesterday?

(Root: do)

The girl showed her mother the picture she drew in school.
(Root: show)

He had eaten three hamburgers.

(Root: eat)

Third person singular form of a verb

The third person singular (he/she/they/it/one) conjugation is the verb form that tends to be different from other
conjugations. For regular verbs, this verb form end in –s (or sometimes –es). Consider the examples below:

he sees

she watches

they play

it shrinks

one does

Present participle form of a verb

The present participle verb form is created by adding –ing to the root word. It’s used in the past, present, and
future progressive verb tenses. Look at the examples below:

We’re coming to the party tonight.

(come – coming)

They have been drawing for hours.

(draw – drawing)

We will be washing the car before vacation.

(wash – washing)

Past and past participle forms of the verb

The past and past participle verb form for regular verbs is the root word + –ed. It’s only used with the past
tenses. Consider the examples below:

We shopped for hours on Saturday afternoon.

(shop – shopped)

The books were stacked on the shelf.

(stack – stacked)

He had played computer games for the whole weekend.

(play – played)

The past participle can be difficult to determine for some irregular verbs. It’s best to look these up in a
dictionary if you’re at all unsure of the past participle. Here are a few examples of irregular verbs:
Root Simple Past Past Participle
Sing Sang Sung
See Saw Seen
Fall Fell Fallen
Give Gave Given
Go Went Gone

Example:
I had forgiven him for his unkind words.

Simon had lit candles all around the room.

Some people encourage young children to leave their parents’ house as soon as they become adults while other
say children should stay at their parents’ house as long as possible.
In our society, there is far more attention on men’s sport than women’s sport.
You are about to start social meetings in a particular area where people from different nationalities can take part.
You ordered two items through internet and you received two different items.
Some people encourage young children to leave their parents’ house as soon as they become adults while other
say children should stay at their parents’ house as long as possible. Discuss both the views and give your
opinion.
Some parents believe that reading books for entertainment is a waste of children’s time.

The primary reason why teaching mother and father good parenting traits does not make sense is that it would
decrease a very little crime rate among young people. This is because parents teach their children essential
morals and ethics to make them valuable citizens. However, it is the outside environment of their house, which
encourages them to commit any crime, such as peer pressure. For example, it is shown in a recent survey by
Cambridge University that 25% of youngsters committed crimes by the influence of their peers irrespective of
how good they were taught by their parents.

Another reason for mitigating the juvenile crime rate is that the government should make the law against it. This
is to say that severe punishments deter the youth from indulging in criminals activities, which could jeopardize
their and their family’s lives. This will result in them staying away from any illegal activities and becoming
responsible citizens. For instance, the UAE has the lowest crime rate amongst youngsters because the state has
strict rules and impose heavy fines against any criminal affairs.

In conclusion, reducing juvenile crime by teaching parents good parenting skills is not a suitable option because
this would be less effective to deter young people to commit any crime and strict laws are the only way.

2.
The graph of crimes is on the increase nowadays. These crimes are mostly committed by youngsters, which is
definitely a matter of great concern. Many people claim that this is the result of bad parenting as parents are
ignorant of their kids activities. However, I disagree with the aforementioned statement and will discuss the
same in this essay.

In today’s world society plays an important role in forming an individual’s mindset. Youth learn their behaviour
from their surroundings. Present generation is exposed to various exploitative content on social media and
internet such as aggressive video games, pornography, crime shows and lot more. I believe even movies
encourage social evils as they project lead cast murdering people in name of revenge and take law in their hands
which portrays them as heroic. Huge number of youth is getting involved in illegal intoxication because cinema
has depicted that taking alcohol and drugs is a casual thing. There are many other social factors like
unemployment, peer pressure, poverty that persuade youngsters to involve in crimes.

In conclusion, I would say that parents can only inculcate good values in their children and influence them to a
certain extent. While there are other influential factors in an individual’s life such as bad company, society,
social media and one’s own personal choices which plays a major role in shaping youth’s mentality. No parents
want their children to be criminals and they always show them virtuous path. Hence it would be wrong to say
that only good parenting skills can help reduce the crime rates of young offenders.

3.
Nowadays, young people commit a lot of crimes than last two decades. Maybe the underlying reason is the
wrong upbringing.

Mainly this mistake belongs to some parents. This essay agrees that parents must learn to raise their children
differently. Firstly, this essay will discuss how this method can help to reduce crime among young people, and
secondly, what will be the results in society.

On the one hand, teaching parents good parenthood talents can change the world society. Many parents
prohibit their children from regular activities such as a walk outside with them, drawing, playing games with
them, and all children's joys.

Modern parents prefer to force their children to study from an early age, and they are strict with their children
from an early age. As a result of this, children are growing up selfish, evil, and indifferent to their surroundings.
It leads to more and more crimes among young people. Psychologists in their new report informed us that
among the criminals, 69% of the people had a bad relationship with their relatives, colleagues, and
neighborhood. A bad attitude towards people depends on their upbringing, so parents must be more lovely to
their children. Children who are in good relationships with their families do not want to do something horrible.

On other hand, if this method will be begun,

criminality among young people will be reduced. The modern world does not need to string parents and their
problematic children. The community will be more peaceful without them. Some countries which started this
method see the results. For example, South Korea, Sweden, and Romania are the best instances of this method.
In these countries, parents cannot force their kids to do something hard for them. Due to this, crime in these
countries has decreased so much, that no one will steal a bag that is left on the street.

In conclusion, I agree that modern parents must be taught ways of communicating with their children and not be
a string with them because kids know better what is bad and what is good for themselves.
