MIXED SEPARATION

A. Objective
a. For separating mixed
b. For calculating the mass of component
B. Equipment and materials
1) Equipment
a. Evaporating dish
b. Scoopula
c. Bunsen burner
d. Tripod
e. Magnet
2) Materials
a. NH4Cl
b. KCl
c. Iron powder
C. Procedure
a. Weigh the evaporating disk. Burner the evaporating disk, chill and weigh it.
b. Mixed input into evaporating disk, then weigh them all together.
c. Weigh the magnet. After that, hold magnet on the mixed to get closer with the iron
powder until the iron powder out. Weigh two of them
d. Heat the mixed to separate NH4Cl.
e. Weigh the evaporating disk wich containing KCl after the two of them get cold.
D. Result
Iron porder are lifted by magnet, the weight of iron powder are then calculated
from the sum of the weight of both minus the magnetic weight. When the mixed is
heated NH4Cl. will form a gas and separately living KCl, because NH4Cl. is a sublime
easy substance.
E. Discussion
In fact, can be used separation method other than this. But this method is the
easiest.
