Importance of Ramappa as Heritage and Structural Relevance

The Ramappa Temple, also known as the Ramalingeswara Temple, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site
located in the village of Palampet, in the state of Telangana, India. It was built during the Kakatiya
dynasty, between the 12th and 13th centuries AD, and is known for its remarkable architecture,
exquisite carvings, and unique features.

One of the most remarkable features of the Ramappa Temple is its use of lightweight stone, which
was carved and polished to create intricate sculptures and decorations. This was made possible by
the use of a unique technique that involved adding a small amount of sand to the stone mixture,
which made it more porous and lightweight. This technique is known as the "sandbox technology"
and is believed to have been developed by the sculptors of the Kakatiya dynasty.

Another unique feature of the Ramappa Temple is its use of an innovative technique to create a
floating pillar. The pillar, which is located in the main hall of the temple, is carved from a single piece
of stone and is not attached to the base or ceiling. It can be moved slightly by a gentle push, and it
oscillates for a few seconds before coming to a stop. This is believed to be an early example of a
seismic-resistant structure and shows the advanced engineering skills of the Kakatiya dynasty.

The temple is also known for its exquisite carvings, which depict scenes from Hindu mythology and
the daily life of the people of the Kakatiya dynasty. The carvings are so finely detailed and delicate
that they are often compared to the filigree work of goldsmiths.

In addition to its artistic and architectural significance, the Ramappa Temple also has scientific
significance. The unique properties of the lightweight stone used in the temple have attracted the
attention of researchers and scientists. Studies have shown that the stone has high porosity and low
density, which makes it an excellent insulator and reduces the transmission of heat and sound. This
makes it ideal for use in construction in hot and noisy environments.

Overall, the Ramappa Temple is a remarkable example of the advanced engineering, artistic skills,
and innovative techniques of the Kakatiya dynasty. Its unique features and scientific significance
make it a valuable cultural heritage site and a source of inspiration for architects, engineers, and
artists alike

Vijnana Telangana Team Decided to conduct a Mechanics workshop for School teachers to enable
them with Experimental science and to intill pride of Indian heritage also along with this effort
Vijnana Telangana Team Requested SCERT and Volunteers of Vijnana Telangana to nominate Teachers
for the one day Mechanical workshop and got 50 nominations and finally Teachers reached from all
districts of Telangana and registered for workshop before 1 hr of start of the program,.

The Program started with Ramappa Temple visit and later to that Teachers reached Farmers Training
center and there 4 sessions in Experimental science topics Training was arranged with Experimental
set up to do experiments related to center of gravity .Center of Mass, Force, Accelaration, Concepts
of Moment of Intertia, Newtons laws , Mass, Volume,Measurements etc.

Techers and coordinators did all experiments and certifcates of participation were distributed along
with highlighting the importance of Ramappa temple and Indian Pride of Sandbox technology
established during 11th centrury.

Animated Elephants screen show with Elephant movement depicting Darshan ,puja all activities that
needs to be done at every area and pradakshin guidence depicted by the Elephants

The Stone to stone layered colored selection of stone type and fitment shows up the Visual
Appearance clarity of the sculptures

The Temple at Night vision is certainly wonderful phenominal particulalry amavasya and Pournami
days because of beutiful slit of sthamba at middle of the Temple

The Load distribution only on pillars is done without FEM methods on structures but with an
experiential stimation with model temple structure is excellent process innovation of proto model
eliminating all simulation needs in construction

The shikhara stone density less than water is another point of thought why we are still behind
western thoughts in technology and there is need to develop different paradigms of science outlook

The purana depiction on walls of center hall gives over view of Mano ,buddhi ,ahankara, chitta related
problems we encounter with the resources that this srushti brought from sagara mathana

Need for sustainable progress is stressed with selective puranic descriptions with greatest spirituyal
significance

Shiva linga murthy construction is unique with stone selection to carving with rudra feel

Conducted simple experiements of Mechanics learning

We need to generate interest of our Heritage and methods with this kind of Workshops continuously
conducted every month for Teachers and Students visiting Temple site and appreciating ancient
wisdom and understand scientific concepts.

This workshop feedback also received well with teachers happy and pride they felt after visiting the
temple premises and learning scientific concepts.

Program ended with Shanti Mantra
