NASA Langley Research Center

The activity I did was the NASA Langley Research center. What I learned in this article is the
different types of buildings they have and what they are used for and what they are meant to be
used for to help NASA. One of the six buildings that I explored was the Variable Density Tunnel
where they were used for the development of new aircraft designs leading up to world war 2. I
thought this tunnel was interesting because of how big it is and how it was used. Another
building I explored was the Acoustics Research Lab where they test environments such as
predicting the noise of air vehicles of all types. I thought this was very interesting on how they
can predict what type of vehicle it is by the sound. I also explored Atmospheric Sciences where
they see inside a clean room where space-bound technology is tested and prepared. This was
interesting on how it is built with a clear surrounding and has many technologies inside it. Fourth
building I explored is Flight Research Hangar, this building is Langley's historic hangar houses
aircraft that support an array of airborne research campaigns. This building is important
because this is where they store all their big air vehicles. Another building I explored is Vacuum
spheres at the Hypersonic Facilities Complex. This place has vacuum spheres which
researchers use to create air flow for testing aerodynamics. This building is important because it
has become a symbol of NASA Langley. I thought this building was interesting to search
because they are big spheres that vacuum. Last building I explored is the 14 by 22-foot
subsonic Tunnel. This place is NASA Langley busiest wind tunnel where low-speed tests lead to
safer takeoffs and landings. Lastly, this activity I found interesting because NASA has many big
buildings which are used for many big things. I mostly found the Acoustic Research Lab
because they test the environments and are able to predict the type of vehicles that are
approaching. Some questions I have are how long it took to build every building, How much
technology is being used, and lastly how many people work for each building.

The article I read was https://newsela.com/view/ck9nooo2s08om0iqj89sbeqed. This article talks

about women mostly how they are involved in Nasa. Something that is talked about is Nasa
first women in 2019 which astronauts Christina Koch and Jessica Meir completed the first
all-female spacewalk. Another thing they talk about is how women remain an overwhelming
minority at NASA and other aerospace companies. Women make up only about a third of
NASA's workforce. This article also talk on how women are more involved now and aren't
hidden figures, And that has led women to leave science and engineering jobs at rates higher
than their male counterparts. Lastly this article is talking about how women need to have an
increase in work and not make them less. I think this article was interesting because it teaches
why women should have their rights in life.
