Chapter1
Introduction

This chapter is divided into six parts: (1) Background of the Study, (2) Statement of the
Problem, (3) Significance of the Study, (4) Definition of Terms, (5) Scope and Delimitation of
the Study, (6) Hypothesis.

Part One, Background of the Study, present the rationale for selecting the present problem
and the study's frame of reference to strengthen the reason for the investigation.

Part Two, Statement of the Problem, states the general and specific objectives of the study,
which are to be addressed in the study.

Part Three, Significance of the Study, discusses the benefits each end user may derive from
and how each can profit from the results.

Part Four, Definition of Terms, defines both conceptually and operationally the key terms
and variables used in the study.

Part Five, Scope and Delimitation of the Study, specifies the limits as well as the boundaries
of the research in terms of variables, participants, instruments, and statistical tools used in
the study.

Part Six, Hypothesis, states your prediction on how your research will find.

Background of the Study

Social media has become an integral part of people’s life as this technology enable
people to network with friends and associates, share photographs, generate contents,
interact in games and real time conversations. The ever-increasing proliferation of mobile
technologies has increased the use of social media, more especially in universities where the
technology is transforming the way students communicate, collaborate, interact, and learn
(Paul, 2018).

In this process of social learning, it becomes very important for students to stay
connected to peers. Students can make friends with friends of friends and build a strong
network. They can get to know many new people and start building new connections with
them. Earlier it was very difficult to get any information about famous personalities.
Everyone had to just see them on televisions and newspapers. After social media has come
to the limelight it is very easy for everyone to follow famous personalities and influential
people. Hence, social media has played a very important role in connecting students to the
people who they take aspiration from. Social media is a beautiful platform for students to
express themselves. Many students will be scared with the thought of what will happen if
they express themselves. It helps students to share their thoughts without any fear. Social
media allows students to express in many ways, like by posting photos, blogs, individual
articles, videos, audio clips etc. This helps students to come out of the box and explore their
talents. Such events will identify the student’s talents and give them opportunities further in
life. Compared to before it’s very easy to communicate with others now. This has become
possible only with the help of social media. Social media has helped us to do away with the
old methods where students had to wait for an opportunity to participate in an event and
showcase their talents. From when social media has come into picture it has given students
a beautiful platform for them to showcase their talents.

Social media platforms can be categorized according to the interests of their users
and their purposes. There are platforms that appeal to video game players, social gamers,
video sharers, professional business networks, virtual worlds, review platforms, and beyond.
Social media platforms allow people to access information in real-time, to connect, and to
find niche communities. It has helped many individuals find common ground with others
online, making the world seem more interconnected and within reach. Social media has
reshaped our lives, capturing more than 4.7 billion users worldwide and counting. Whether
or not each platform resonates with you personally, it offers a gateway for people and
brands to connect across different interests and communities.
