MANUAL COMPUTATION ACTIVITY

Solve the following manually. Hand written. The activity using SPSS or online tool is separated
and different set of data.

I. Answer the following

1. An agricultural science teacher in one of the Junior Secondary Schools in Kano State
conducted a study to find out the attitude of his students towards practical agriculture. He
grouped his students into those residences in the urban areas and those residences in
the rural areas. He then developed an attitudinal scale which he administered on the
students. He obtained the following results:
RESIDENTIAL SAMPLE MEAN STANDARD
AREA DEVIATION
Urban 75 73.08 16
Rural 75 70.25 21
Verify whether the observed difference in the result is statistically significant at α = .05

2. Ten male patients with high blood pressure are put on an exercise-and-diet regimen
designed to lower blood pressure. The results for each patient for systolic pressure at
the start of the regimen and after six months are:∑ d=39 mmHg , ∑ d =209 mmHg .

Assuming the populations of differences is normally distributed, test the hypothesis of no

significant difference at 5% level of significance.

3. The time it takes (in minutes) to treat randomly selected patients in an emergency room
for three shifts is recorded here. At α = .05, can one conclude that there is a significant
difference in the mean time it takes to treat patients for the three shifts?
