Communication through Barrier’s

Communication can be defined as the process of transmitting information and


common understanding from one person to another. The word communication is
derived from the Latin word, communis, which means common. The definition
underscores the fact that unless a common understanding results from the exchange of
information, there is no communication. If we have communication we can easily to
express our ideas and feelings, and at the same time, helps us to understand emotion and
thoughts of the others. As a result, we will develop affection or hatred toward other
people, and positive or negative relationships will be created. Having communication
skills you can gain more friends and also you can have a good relationship with our
family and relatives.

THE PROCESS OF COMMUNICATION

Communication as a process between at least two people that begins when one person
wants to communicate with another. Communication originates as mental images within
a person who desires to convey those images to another. Mental images can include
ideas, thoughts, pictures, and emotions. The person who wants to communicate is called
the sender (see figure). To transfer an image to another person, the sender first must
transpose or translate the images into symbols that receivers can understand. Symbols
often are words but can be pictures, sounds, or sense information. Only through symbols
can the mental images of a sender have meaning for others. The process of translating
images into symbols is called encoding.

The Communication Model

Once a message has been encoded, the next level in the communication process is to
transmit or communicate the message to a receiver. This can be done in many ways:
during face-to-face verbal interaction, over the telephone, through printed materials
(letters, newspapers, etc.), or through visual media (television, photographs). Verbal,
written, and visual media are three examples of possible communication channels used
to transmit messages between senders and receivers. Other transmission channels
include touch, gestures, clothing, and physical distances between sender and receiver
(proxemics).
When a message is received by another person, a decoding process occurs. Just as a
sender must encode messages in preparation for transmission through communication
channels, receivers must sense and interpret the symbols and then decode the
information back into images, emotions, and thoughts that make sense to them. When
messages are decoded exactly as the sender has intended, the images of the sender and
the images of the receiver match, and effective communication occurs.

Barriers of the Communication

Recognizing the most common communication barriers and understanding how they
impact on effective communication is very important. Removing barriers is one of the
easiest ways to improve communication. This article briefly studies the major obstacles
to communication. Each barrier will then be examined in turn in further articles, with
tips on overcoming each one. Noise (interruptions, physical distractions), Physical
(geographical considerations, time and space)
Mental attitude (perceptions, stereotyping, prejudice, personal beliefs, status,
relationship between communicators, culture, emotionality), Poor feedback
Poor listening skills, Selection of inappropriate medium or language used. Body
language (non-verbal communication), Excessive Talking, Prejudice, and Distractions

Communication through barriers in other words overcoming barriers to have a good


communication like in the situation of you are talking someone in the phone in a public
market we know in public market there was crowded and noisy, that noise is one of the
barrier so we need to avoid that go to place that not crowded or make your phone on
loud speaker mode or maybe use headphones. And the situation that when a teacher is
teaching us and suddenly one of my classmate came late that’s one is a example of
barrier that when someone is talking suddenly there was a interrupt to the discussion
will we overcome it by continue what were talking about or what our teacher is talking
about.

Overcoming that barriers will be have a good communication. How overcome barriers
lets make an example Interrupting on a discussion with shameful non-verbal
communication or wrong words will have a negative effect in powerful correspondence.
Here's a few hints to enable you to maintain a strategic distance from this obstruction to
successful tuning in: Tune in without hindering while the other individual is talking. In
the event that you try to clear up something, utilize proper non-verbal communication,
for example, raising your hand or approach considerately for more subtle elements. And
for having a good communication you should have communication skills like what I
need to improve my confidence and the using of words that we use with talking to
others and shyness to approach them or to talk or in short confidence. Because in all
interactions, confidence (but not over-confidence) is crucial. Conveying confidence can
be something as simple as maintaining eye contact during a conversation, or using a
firm but friendly tone when speaking with people over the phone. Confidence because
having that quality is the one most important in communication.

Conclusion

Communication may breakdown as a result of many communication barriers that may be


attributed to the sender or receiver. Therefore, effective communication requires
familiarity with the barriers. Choosing the right channel for communication is also
important, because choosing the wrong medium undermines the message.
