For every group activity that we are going to do I want Yes ma’am
you to stay SMART or I want to observe your group
with the following indicators: S for share your ideas, M
for maintain silence, A for accepting the ideas of the
other members, R for respect each other and T for
teamwork, in short your group must be SMART.
Are we all clear?
Very good!
Pre-Assessment
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY
So for now, please get 1/8 sheet of paper for your (the students are getting a 1/8 sheet of
Pre- test. Just write the letter of your answer. paper)
Are you ready? Yes ma’am!
(The teacher is flashing the questions on the screen)
14. What is the type of rock form from lava that cools
quickly that results to finer grain and smaller size of
crystals?
A. Extrusive igneous rock
B. Intrusive igneous rock
C. Sedimentary rock
D. Metamorphic rock
Motivation
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY
Class are you familiar with 4 pics and 1 Yes ma’am
word game?
Good! In this game I’ll show you a picture, you have to Yes ma’am
guess it with the help of jumbled word just below the
picture. Did you get it?
The class will be divided into three. Please count off 1-3. (the students are starting to count and form
their group)
Choose a leader to represent your group, please write the
names of your group members.
Do you all have a group? Yes ma’am
That’s good!
May I know who the representative for each group is? (Kim raise her hand as group 1 leader,
Group1? Group 2? And for group 3? Mica raise her hand as group 2 leader and
Desiree for group 3)
The first group who will get the correct answer will be (students are getting excited)
given a point.
C R K S O
Okay, what is this class? (Desiree the group 3 leader is raising her
hand)
Yes group 3? Rocks!
Correct! What can you say about the word rocks? Rock is a solid mineral substance on the
surface or under the soil.
Alright! Let us give them five claps! (the students are clapping their hands)
There are two types of igneous rocks, what are those? (Daniel is raising his hand)
Yes Daniel? The two types of igneous rock are
extrusive/volcanic rock and
intrusive/plutonic.
Alright! Extrusive/volcanic rock forms when magma .
makes its way to earth’s surface as lava and then cools. Fine-grained for extrusive and coarse
The crystals are very small (fine-grained) since the grained for intrusive.
cooling process is fast. While intrusive/plutonic cools
slowly beneath the earth’s surface and are created by
magma. The intrusive igneous rocks have very large
crystals (coarse grained). What words best describes
the two types of igneous rocks?
Very good! Igneous rocks are classified based on (the students are reading the definition of
its composition and texture. Composition is divided into terms flashing on the screen)
four : felsic, mafic, intermediate, ultramafic. And texture
is divided into five: aphanistic, phanetiric, porphyritic,
glassy, and pyroclastic.
(the teacher is flashing the definition of terms on the
screen)
Pegmatite Peridotite
Rhyolite Tuff
Here are some examples tell me if it’s foliated or non- (the students are answering in chorus)
foliated. You just have to guess.
Gneiss-foliated
Gneiss Marble Marble-non foliated
Amphibolite-non foliated
Amphibolite Eclogite Eclogite-foliated
Sandstone Shale
For chemical is
Halite
Coal

compare your scores from your pretest earlier.
(The teacher is dictating the correct answers)
VII.ASSIGNMENT
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY
Now for your assignment, collect at least five rock
samples in your place and take a photo of the samples.
Describe the characteristics of each rock depending on
their appearance, texture, color, and layers (or bands).
Then classify them as to igneous, sedimentary or
metamorphic rock. Use short bond paper.
State their respective economic and medical
significance in our present society.
