Characteristics of a force

A force can be represented by a vector F⃗, characterized by:

An origin (point of application): the point where the force is
applied on the object
It could be the center of gravity of the object or a point of
contact.
a line of action: horizontal vertical or along an oblique line
a direction: upwards, downwards, to the left...
a magnitude F: value or intensity of the force.
- The magnitude F of the force F⃗ is measured by means of a
spring balance
- In the international system (SI), the magnitude F of a force is
expressed in newton
Contact forces:
- Muscular force
- Normal reaction of support
- Tension force
- Friction force
Acting from a distance forces:
- Force of Gravity (weight of an object)
- Magnetic force
- Electric force
Effects:
Sets the body in motion
Change the direction and the speed
Change shape
