DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 7

MELC: Raise sensible, challenging, and thought-provoking questions in public


forums/panel discussions, etc.

I. Objectives
At the end of an hour discussion, the students are able to:

A. apply appropriate Wh-questions to complete the given text;


B. challenge oneself to answer personal queries on Wh-questions based on the given text; and
C. construct wh-questions by analyzing the given statements through group collaboration.

up some trash and throw it in the
trash bin and arrange your desk.”

“Since our topic last meeting was all about


fact and opinion, let's have a drill. Say TRUE
if the statement is correct and FALSE if the
statement is incorrect. Are you ready?”

something we all know.

sentence.”

“Why are asking questions important,

“Asking questions is important because
it clarifies our confusion about any
situations and queries.”
“Yes, Excellent idea John. Ok Class based
on the questions I gave to you and looking at
the highlighted letters, what is our topic for
today? Yes Larry”
“Our topic for today is all about Wh-
questions.”
“Excellent Larry. To guide us with our
lesson let’s read our objectives first.”

questions based on the given issue; and

analyzing the given statements through group
collaboration.

“Now, class, Let’s have a game by group. I


have questions posted on the board and all you
need to do is to complete the question by
putting the appropriate word. Choose your
answer from a list of words in the word cloud.
Whoever can raise first their hands will be the
first to answer and if ever the answer is wrong
another group can steal. Am I understood?”
“Yes ma’am.”

that let us now proceed to our main topic
which gives you more understanding of the
Wh-questions. So, brace yourself for it will be
a long journey. Are you ready?”

“This time class, let us understand the
different rules in formulating an information
question or the Wh-question. Please read,
Dinah.”
“Wh-questions begin with what, when,
where, who, whom, which, whose, why,
and how. We use them to ask for
information. The answer cannot be yes or
no.
“Today let’s first have the basic questions.
Can you formulate a question that begins with
what? Yes, Maki.”
“What is your name?”
“Very good, Maki. What question is a
complex question since we can used it to ask
an objective or subjective information.
Usually, what question refers to things.
Another example, Jhored.”
“What is the matter with you?”
“Correct, Jhored. Give a question that
starts with when? Yes, Marwin.”
“When is your birthday?”
“Thank you, Marwin. The question when
refers to time. Who can give an example of a
where question? Yes, Gerald.”
“Where do you live?”
“Correct, Gerald. The question where
refers to place. Give an example of the
question, who? Yes, Jayril.”
“Who is the owner of this notebook?”
“Yes, very good Jayril. Who question
refers usually to a person. Can you give an
example of a question, why? Yes, Casey.”
“Why is she angry today?”

“Correct, Casey. The why question explains


about the situation or it gives a reason.”

F. Generalization

“Can you give the five Wh-questions that we


discussed earlier, Kent?”
“The five wh-questions are what,
where, when, who and why.
“How often do you use these questions? Yes,
Nico Adrian.”
“Every day we asked questions to our
parents, classmates and teachers.”
“Yes, it’s true. Thank you, Nico Adrian. Can
you give me an example of questions you’d
always ask to your parents? Yes, Aubrey.”

G. Application
“Class, let’s have another game by group.
For the first part of our game, I will be showing
you some pictures and all you need to do is to
distinguish the appropriate Wh-question. For
the second part of the game, I will be showing
you statements and all you need to do is to
make a question out of the given sentence.
Write your answer on the illustration board and
raise it if you finish answering. Are you ready,
