COURSE SYLLABUS - COURSE 2

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
- Entry score: A2 CEFR (350 TOEIC score)
- Target score: A2+ CEFR (400 TOEIC score)

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
- This syllabus is designed for course of 64 face-to-face credit hours and 64 online credit hours (self-study).
- This course is designed to improve students’ language proficiency by equipping them with important knowledge of vocabulary and
grammar structures and functions as well as language skills (Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing) at the target level A2+ of CEFR (400
TOEIC score):

 Listening for general meaning and significant details, understanding implicit and explicit information, drawing inferences from
various media (i.e. radio programs, voice mail, podcasts, TV programs…).

 Reading for main ideas and supporting details, drawing inferences, identifying points of view of different text types (i.e.
instructions, notices, articles, web pages, blog posts, stories…)

 Practicing oral interactions in familiar and less familiar situations (i.e. mall, school, street, gym, office, bank, seminar…)

 Practicing the written conventions of various text types (i.e. formal and informal emails and letters, descriptive paragraphs, news
and weather reports, narratives…)

LEARNING MODEL: Blended learning model, each unit includes
o A pre-computer lesson: face-to-face learning with teachers to familiarize students with the topic of the online lesson and to improve
their Listening and Reading skills,
o A computer lesson (English Discoveries): online self-learning with support from teachers to enrich students’ vocabulary and grammar
structures, as well as develop language skills (Listening, Reading, Speaking, Writing),
o A post-computer lesson: face-to-face learning with teachers to recall what students have learned online and enhance Speaking and
Writing skills.

COURSE MATERIALS:
- Online learning: English Discoveries - Intermediate 2
- Face-to-face learning:
o For students: English Discoveries Workbook - Intermediate 2
o For teachers: English Discoveries Workbook & Teacher’s book - Intermediate 2

TIME ALLOCATION: 17 weeks (16 weeks for learning and 1 week for mid-term tests)
- Online learning (self-study): 3 hours/week
- Face-to-face learning: 2 credit hours/session x 2 sessions/week
