Performance Task: Persuasive Essay

THE DEMAND OF F2F CLASSES

The COVID-19 pandemic began in late 2019, when Wuhan, China, reported some cases
of a new respiratory ailment. SARS-CoV-2, the sickness-causing virus, and COVID-19,
the illness it produced, were both named. Teachers, students, and families have all faced
a variety of struggles as a result of the abrupt change to remote, or online learning, while
some schools suspended their classes entirely. Given that students were never
accustomed to staying at home, they had trouble keeping themselves motivated and
engaged because of the sudden transitions in learning. After two years of compliance
with the community quarantine levels, the Philippines implemented a new classification
system to manage the COVID-19 called The Alert Level System. Each level specifies the
risk of COVID-19 in a location and whether businesses and industries are permitted to
operate while abiding by health protocols. The most lenient level of alert, Alert Level 1, is
currently in effect in Batangas Province, meaning that most businesses, including
schools, will do business as usual until the COVID-19 issue is under control. As a result,
many schools and colleges have embraced hybrid learning that mixes face-to-face
instruction and online learning. In addition to allowing for smaller class sizes and social
distancing strategies, this gives flexibility to students who might need to learn from home
due to illness or other circumstances. Yet, the debate whether classes should be
conducted permanently in-person or online has been going around since schools are now
operating as usual.

Face-to-face education is essential to major subjects given that they call for a deeper
knowledge and more specialized attention. Online classes, on the other hand, are
appropriate for general education subjects as they don't require for specific expertise or
individualized instruction. Active learning, which proves necessary for students pursuing
major subjects, is made possible by the teacher and students' direct interaction during
face-to-face classes, which gives the students an opportunity to ask questions, clear their
doubts, and receive real-time feedback. This positive learning environment is fostered
and supported by the teacher and students' personal interactions. Online classes allow
students to learn at their own pace and convenience, saving time and effort. Due to the
widespread accessibility of online learning resources and online classroom platforms,
online classes can now be accessed from anywhere in the world, hence extending the
reach and accessibility of education. Nevertheless, despite being a general education
subject, physical education classes require hands-on experience and interpersonal
interaction, making them better suited for in-person instruction. Online classes might not
be efficient in transferring this knowledge because students need to learn physical skills
and techniques under the supervision of a teacher.

Therefore, a practical and effective strategy that meets the demand for quality education
while addressing the current situation is to conduct in-person classes only for major
subjects and physical education, and online classes for general education subjects. While
the global pandemic is still in motion, I remain to believe that offering both face-to-face
and online classes will help to reduce COVID-19 exposure.
