Note
After the installation of this FCO the serial changer has the new code number 4512 202 0078.
Introduction:
The major modification on the serial changer concerns the voltage supply.
It is changed over from AC 28V to DC 36V. After the serial changer is modified, it must be operated only with the
new DC power supply SC2 (installed in the geometry control unit and part of this FCO).
1. Preparatory work
S Switch the system ON.
S Select exposure technique Bucky.
S Tilt the tabletop into the 0° position.
S Move the Bucky unit in longitudinal direction into the
center of the tabletop.
S Move the tabletop in transverse direction into the
middle position.
S Switch the system OFF.
Note
A second person is needed to remove the tabletop!
Note
Before removing the last two screws secure the tabletop
with the aid of a second person so that it cannot roll off
the table base!
S Remove the two screws M6 of the drive at the foot end
of the table.
3. Installation of the DC power supply unit SC2 for the serial changer
Note
After the DC power supply unit is installed, the system must be switched on only when plug VAX4 at the serial
changer is pulled off. Only after the D80 board is exchanged in the serial changer, the serial changer can be
operated again on the DC power supply unit SC2.
3.4. Install the SC2 unit and fix it with the three
screws M5.
Note
In case it is not possible to detect the lateral installation
location of the serial changer in the Bucky frame when
the serial changer is re-installed, this location must be
determined again under radiation by means of a
centering cassette!
2. Unscrew 2 nuts M3
Note
Remove the four plastic guide nipples inserted laterally
in the Amplimat measuring chamber and discard them
-- they are replaced by new ones when the measuring
chamber is re--installed!
Note
Applicable only if the new D80 board is not equipped with
a termination resistor at X3.
Note
The extension cable must under all circumstances be
installed when the socket X16 is located on the soldering
side of the D80 board.
If the socket X16 is located on the component side, the
extension cable must not be installed.
Note
From serial number 336 of the serial changer onwards
an exchange of the Opto2 board is not necessary since
the most recent version should already be installed. The
most recent version has a metal cover that reaches over
the complete length of the board -- this can easily be
recognized when the serial changer is removed.
2x countersunk screws M3
Note
From serial number 370 of the serial changer onwards
a modification of the tensioning mechanism is not
necessary, since the most recent version should already
be installed. The most recent version has an additional
recess on the tension lever and a magnet holder which
is narrower than that of the older version (about 15mm). New
Old
Note
When loosening the screws a relatively high force must
be exerted on each of the two Phillips screws. This force
must under all circumstances be compensated by, for
instance, a screwdriver placed under the magnet holder
for otherwise the oscillating springs of the grid frame
would be damaged.
Note
In case the adjustment via the fixing screws of the
D82 and D81boards is not sufficient, further
adjustment can be performed by loosening the fixing
screws(4 x 2 x M3 5.5mm across flats) of the springs
on the Bucky frame. Be aware that this adjustment is
relatively complicated since it changes also the
distance of the grid frame with respect to the
Amplimat measuring chamber as well as the
oscillation direction.
Note
Usually the gear motor is in position „Grid tightened“, i.e.
when installing the gear motor make sure that also the
Bucky grid is in position “Grid tightened”.
Note
From serial number 289 of the serial changer onwards
an exchange of the flat cable is not necessary since the
most recent version should already be installed. The
most recent version has a flat cable with the kinking
pointing at the D80 board.

Note
It may happen that on some serial changers the two
holes for the third tie-wrap are missing.
In this case these holes must additionally be drilled with
a diameter of 5mm. The position of these holes is
165mm from the left and 30mm respectively 60mm from
the bottom.
8.9. Make sure that the flat cable does not touch
any parts inside the serial changer such as
Amplimat measuring chamber or toothed belt
of the I/O drive in any of the operating
positions (--15°, 0°, +90°) while the I/O drive is
moved back and forth.
Note
The rubber buffer attached to the carriage of the
I/O drive must not hit the flat cable. If necessary,
displace the rubber buffer!
10. Check and adjustment of the angle of the two cassette holders
Note
To guarantee that also heavy (large) cassettes can
reliably be held and correctly be positioned, the two
holders must have certain inward angle.
This angle makes sure that the holders get a firm grip of
the cassette .
-- Earth
-- VA X4 power supply
-- VA X2 CAN connection
-- VA X1 radiation release
Note
It is also possible to use a 2.0mm Allen key instead of
a feeler gauge to measure the gap because its width
across flats is 2.2mm.
11.1. Pull off the plug for the voltage supply of the
serial changer from VAX4.
Note
The serial changer power--ON selftest starts
automatically which tests all axes over the complete
range of movement.
Note
Opposed to the frontal collimator, the position of the rear
collimator cannot be changed!
Note
If, for instance, too much lateral force is exerted upon
the Amplimat measuring chamber it may happen that it
has a bulge which either collides with the anti-scatter
grid or the cassette carriage. In this case enlarge the
Holder for Amplimat plug
slits in the four lateral guide nipples (plastic) with a sharp
introduced
knife.
12.21. Switch the system OFF and stick the label with the new code
number (new code number: 4512 131 00781) on the present old
label located at the right-hand side near the D80 board.
Note
before the first two screws M6 are tightened secure the
tabletop with a second person so that it does not roll off
the table base!
