SINGLE MONUMENT

I. DOCUMENTATION
(Stage I is carried out on the field) Set of drawings includes;

 Site plan
 Measured Survey  Floor
 Make sketches  Plan/s
 Start putting dimensions  Ceiling plan
 Roof plan
- Triangular method (for plan)
 Flooring pattern plan (if any)
- Cartesean Method (for elevations)  Elevations (all sides)
 Sections (at least two; can
 Photographic survey have extra partial sections of
 Interiors complicated or varying area)
 Exteriors  Details (Doors, windows,
 Details ornaments, staircase,
balustrades, etc.)

Besides the classical methods of documentation measured drawings


can also be more easily produced by sophisticated instruments and
methods, such as;

 Theodolite (for plans specially roof and site plans)


 Photogrametry (for elevations specially in case of buildings
which are not easily accessible)
Once the documentation drawings are produced information on;

 building materials,
 structural system,
 forms of deterioration and decay,
 alterations (additions and removals), etc.,

are all transferred on to the drawings.

II. ANALYSIS

Comparative Analysis Building Analysis

Based on historic research Causes of decay or


on similar buildings or deterioration, cause of
same building type structural failure (if any),
examples. reasons for identified
problems in the building
materials.

At this stage comparative studies are done from all points of view

III. RESTITUTION

Based on the research and data collected through documentation of the


monument its restitution proposal is developed – stages of development etc.

IV. RESTORATION

Restoration proposal for continuation of same use or adaptation of a new


use, is prepared.
