Quality of Work:
1. Prescriptive Specifications
All lumber must be of recognized quality and be of the types required for the various elements
of the works. It must also be well-seasoned, devoid of major saps, loose knots, shakes, or
other flaws that compromise its strength and longevity. All exposed surfaces must be
well-dressed and thoroughly dried. Bamboo poles for scaffolding shall be lashed together with
plastic straps to form vertical squares approximately 75cm by 75cm. Thicker bamboo should
be placed diagonally to act as braces. Tongue-and-groove marine plywoods with markings,
"this side down, resting on the support" shall be butted together, leaving a ⅛ inch gap on
panel ends for sub-flooring. Apply wood glue along the joists before fastening the panels with
approved fasteners following the ⅜ inch gap from the edge, spaced 6 inches apart along the
panel edges, and 12 inches apart along the intermediate support. Sand uneven joints before
installing finished flooring.
➢ Lumber/ Slab: All lumber and slab shall be made of mahogany, accurately sized, of approved
quality, and of the specific kinds needed for the various parts of the work. It must also be
well-seasoned, free of large saps, loose knots, shakes, or other flaws that would reduce its
strength or durability. All exposed surfaces must be dried and dressed smoothly.
➢ Plywood: All marine plywoods must be free of core voids and have high-grade face and core
veneers in order to not only provide a high-quality finish but also to increase impact resistance
and reduce water infiltration through any core veneer knots. Free of splits, knots, and other
open flaws; smooth surface suitable for finishing.
➢ Bamboo Poles: All bamboo poles shall be carefully chosen and harvested from mature poles
that are of the highest quality, are incredibly strong and resilient, are completely dried out, and
are free of any cracks or rot.
2. Performance Specifications
All wood slabs to be used in the stair as a stepping platform shall be quarter sawn and
well-seasoned. The wood slab shall be free from any surface molds, lumber defects, and
resinous exudation impairing its strength and durability. Wood slab material shall be treated and
then smoothened to a fresh surface suitable for finish or ready to be installed. (Product) Stair
Treads and Stair Landings: Interior staircase shall use 1 in. by 4 in by 1 1/16 ft. solid mahogany
wood slab as a stair tread and 3 in. by 8 1/5 in. by 1 1/16 ft. solid mahogany wood slab as stair
landing as shown on stair details. (Execute Solid Mahogany Wood Slab as construction material
for the interior stair’s tread and landing, do as follows: I. Stair Treads: Attach the 1 in. by 4 in by
1 1/16 ft. solid mahogany wood slabs to the notched lumber stringer according to the stair detail.
Secure the stair tread by gluing and screwing to the notched lumber stringer. Extend the solid
mahogany wood slab treads over the stringer and finish the edges as shown in the drawings. II.
Stair Landing: Secure the 8 1/5 in. by 1 1/16 ft. solid mahogany wood slab in the stair landing
placement by gluing and screwing the mahogany wood slab to the elevated concrete serving as
a base for the stair landing.
3. Proprietary Specifications
Class A ¾ inch thick tongue-and-groove marine plywood for all subflooring; ½ inch thick 24 x 24
marine plywood for all built-in cabinetries, shelving and similar woodworks. Bamboo products for
rough carpentry and finishing: bamboo cladding of small wave type with size 2900 x 140 x 18
mm, pecan brown bamboo veneer of size 2500 x 430 x 0.5 mm, 6m bamboo poles for
scaffolding
