HIGANTES FESTIVAL
Filipinos are fond of celebrating
various festivals. One of these
big fiestas is located in the City
of Angono, Rizal which is the
so-called Higantes Festival that
is held annually on the 22nd
and 23rd day of November to
express their gratitude for their
patron saint, San Clemente.

FEAST OF SAN ISIDRO LABARADOR

Devotees celebrate Sunday, May 15,


the feast day of San Isidro Labrador,
the revered patron saint of farmers,
peasants, agricultural workers, and of
Madrid, Spain. Traditional
observances associated with the
feast include the Carabao Festival in
Pulilan, Bulacan and Angono, Rizal,
which features kneeling carabaos in
front of the church.

SANTACRUZAN
The Santacruzan is the pageant on the last day of
Flores de Mayo, held in honour of Helena of
Constantinople (known as Reyna Elena) and
Constantine the Great finding the True Cross in
Jerusalem. Its observance in May probably stems
from the old Galician date for Roodmas,

KALUSKOS ARCH BAMBOO FESTIVAL
• Bamboo Arches are traditionally used in different
celebrations like town’s fiesta, weddings, anniversaries
and other important events of the year in Cardona.
This kind of folk art is made of bamboos decorated
and crafted by craftsman. Making this arch needs a
skillful worker or group of workers using sharp bolos
for ornaments and designs of the bamboos before
forming into arch. This artistry in Cardona has been
part of the town’s culture and tradition.It was named
“Kaluskos ng Kawayan”. This name was derived from
squeaky sounds produced when making the arch, like
hissing f the snake, cockling chickens etc. And from
then, the town celebrate Kaluskos Bamboo Arch
Festival every first week of December.

SIKARAN FESTIVAL
Sikaran is a Filipino Martial Art that
involves hand and mostly foot
fighting. As Sikaran is a general term
for kicking which is also used as the
name of the kicking aspects of
other Filipino Martial arts, this
article discusses the distinct art
which is specifically practiced in the
Rizal province that focuses almost
exclusively in kicking. Celebrated
during the late weekend of January.
