CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
INDRODUCTION
As we become more reliant on technology, our lives
have become increasingly convenient. However, with
this convenience comes a cost to the environment. One
of the biggest energy-wasters in our homes is leaving
the electronic appliances on when we leave a room or
even our homes. Forgetting to turn off the lights when
leaving home can lead to a lot of energy waste and
increased energy bills. However, a new device could
help remind us to turn off the lights before we leave
home, reducing our carbon footprint and saving us
money. The, device, which can be installed in the home,
is essentially a PIR motion sensor combined with a
Micro Controller Board and a GSM module. When the
sensor detects when the user is leaving their home it will
immediately send a message to their phone the User
can even Turn off the appliances from their phone

This device is particularly useful for people who have a

habit of forgetting to turn off the electronic appliances
when they leave a room or home. It is easy to get
distracted by other tasks, and it's not always easy to
remember to turn off the electronic appliances. By
installing this device, users can be confident that they
are not wasting energy and can save money on their
electricity bills. In conclusion, the device that reminds
users to turn off the lights when they leave their homes
is a practical and eco-friendly solution to the problem of
energy waste.
CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE SURvEy
LITERATURE SURVEY
Literature survey is carried out to gain information and
knowledge.
Before starting with the analysis and design of project, we
referred many research papers, manuals, documents related
to the concept of project

A literature survey on IFO systems can be classified based on

the technology used as:

GSM based
Motion Sensor Based
Micro-Controller Based

In this project we have used PIR(Passive Infrared)Motion

sensor which is used to detect infrared which is radiated
from all the objects that radiates heat and gives digital
output. We can use this sensor to detect a person’s hand
movement because our body emits some amount of infrared
radiation. We can install this sensor near door locks to detect
a person
When the sensor detects any hand movement it immediately
sends the digital output signal to the Micro- Controller board.
With the help of GSM module it will send text messages to
the user to notify them. The user can even turn off the light
from their phone also.
This literature suggests that IFO is an innovative solution to
the common problem of forgetting to turn off electronic
appliances, providing users with a simple and effective way
to reduce their energy consumption and carbon footprint.

CIRCUITE DIAGRAM
WORKING OF IFO
The IFO device works by combining several components to achieve its
functionality. The core components of the device are the PIR motion sensor,
GSM module, and Arduino board. The PIR motion sensor is used to detect the
presence of a user's hand in the vicinity of the device. It uses infrared radiation
to sense the movement of objects within its range.

After sensing infrared, the sensor gives a digital

output to the Arduino board. The Arduino board
will check whether the electronic appliance is on
or off as per the programme. If the appliance is
on, it will send a text message to the user stating,
"You have forgotten to turn off the light. Please
turn off the light or ignore this message". After
this, the GSM module will go into receiving
mode to check whether the user has sent any
messages back. The user can even turn off the
appliance by replying back with "OFF#". As per
the programme, a loop is used to store all the
text sent by the user in an array. When the loop
gets ‘#," the control will break the loop and
compare the array with the string "OFF#" in an if
statement. If the condition is true, it will turn off the light; otherwise, nothing
will happen.

Overall, the IFO device with PIR motion sensors, Arduino

board, GSM 900 A module, relay module, and breadboard
provides an effective and efficient way to automatically turn
off electronic devices when users leave their home, reducing
energy waste and promoting sustainable living.
