Pre-intermediate A Task #1: “Group debate” Instructions You will have a group debate about the following topic: “Life was better in the past”. Your teacher will divide you in two groups – one of the groups will be in favor and one against the topic. In class, you will have 30 – 40 minutes for the debate. One person will be the judge. The judge has to control the discussion, make sure that students do not interrupt each other, and listen to the arguments. At the end, the judge has to give a two-minute summary of the debate and say whose arguments were more convincing and why. Requirements: • You can prepare arguments before the debate but you cannot read anything during the discussion. • Every student has to be given an opportunity to speak. • You have to respect your group mates. Do not interrupt anyone. • The judge has to take notes during the discussion but cannot read while speaking. • You will participate as a group, but you will be evaluated individually. Ask your teacher for the deadline. Pre-intermediate A Task #1: “Group debate” Evaluation criteria: • Language use 30% • Fluency 25% • Pronunciation 20% • Participation 15% • Content of comments 10% Pre-intermediate A Task #2: “Touching moments” Instructions: You will write an anecdote describing a very important moment in your life using vocabulary related to describing reactions (surprised, amazed, etc). Your writing has to have the following structure: Paragraph 1: Describe what happened (without saying what you felt). Include the place where it happened, the time, people involved, etc. Paragraph 2: Describe how you felt about it. Why did you feel like that? Paragraph 3: Write the conclusion. Would you like to live that experience again? Why? Why not? Requirements: • In your anecdote, you have to use Simple Past and Past Progressive correctly. • You cannot copy anything from the Internet. You cannot use translators. If you do that, you will get a “0”. • You can submit your work hand-written or digital. • You have to follow the structure. • You have to write a minimum of 100 words. Ask your teacher for the deadline.
